Law of averages is for losers to make them feel better. It's for folks like Paki fans after getting thrashed every WC they come back with "our time will come as per law of averages". In sports it doesn't matter that way. India can't beat Brazil at footie even if they play 100 games. Law of averages won't help them out there. We didn't see "law of averages" in Eng & Aus while we were pounded 0-8 so no reason why this should suddenly be brought up after we folded for 138 in SL of all places.

That's so true! When Australia were whooping every opponent for the 16 match streak twice I didn't see any law of averages or when they went through two full World Cups winning every single match! If the law of average is catching up, it's time to put the bar for the average higher. After the 0-8 thrashing, there was still hope that the Indian ODI unit is still the best team in the world, but the CB series, Asia Cup, and now this series is showing that even in ODIs India is but a middle rung team.

Even in Tests we simply gave up once we knew we were out of the game and lost by innings and hundreds of runs. There seems to be a lack of hunger to perform, a lack of pride in the team and their own performances. Barring Kohli I would say almost all of our players are guilty of this charge. I know that every team has bad days and you will not every match but at least giving off your best everytime should be expected from the team. They can't just throw in the towel the day things don't go their way. Don't know how this problem can be fixed as our players seem to be too sated and are not really up for a fight every game

That's really baffling. Right from the BCCI administrators, to selectors, to the players no one saw anything wrong with the 0-8 pounding. Perhaps the only one who came out with dignity from the losses was Dravid with his retirement. BCCI kept towing the line that we won 0-5 in ODIs and against the West Indies, the selectors still do not have a transition plan, and none of the players has made any effort to go and rectify the mistakes. It's been frustrating to watch as a follower of the game when we can see so many glaring flaws why can't they? .

We have Sharad Pawar & Shukla jee running the BCCI so how can you expect any transition planning ? What pissed me off the most was that no one from BCCI came out and said we need to have a proper inquiry and make sure we learn from this and improve, in fact they all kept saying its just one bad series and we were no1 till a year ago. No one wanted to talk about change (forget bringing it), in a typical sarkari/netaji fashion they all wanted to make sure that they didnt lose their jobs. There is no vision or plan

its not a problem.. when u lose things like things start to creep up next u will see individual will give them selves more importance then team honestly team is falling apart i know this is over reaction after one game but signs are there 'total contrast to team under gary kirsten even in osuth africa in first test we showe fight with batting in 2nd innings and everything changed after that

I think it's time for change. The team is simply too jaded at this point and a fresher approach along with new faces should help. We need to have a plan in place for the WC and it's high time we started planning for the tourney.

but if we are panning for net world cup then we should consider wht do abt sehwag he should not play odis anymore imo ya he got 90 in last game but see wht happened today.. just 2 balls swung a bit and he was clueless this batting line up would do rahane,gambhir,kohi,pujara (think abt australia here :winky: ) only top order like this would survive ..after them we can always play players like rohit ,yuvraj if he makes come back ,raina .. dhoni who can step up scoring if needed honestly we need solid players for change i think people forgot wht happened in cb series our batting was ultra shyte!

Sehwag gets an unusually long rope coz of the impact player he is. He can change the game in a metter of overs as he did against Pakis in WC semis and in odis his form has been quite good. But if he continues to fail some more he needs to be dropped. Right now I would want to see us make the following changes :- 1. Decide whether Rohit is the guy or not. If not than go with Pujara or Rahane. Also, if we go with Pujara or Rahane they have to bat in the top 3 as they don't have the game to play big shots later in the innings. 2. Go with 7 batsmen + Pathan + Ashwin + Rahul Sharma + Dinda or any other pacer. No point playing with just 6 batsmen when our specialist bowlers are not gonna do much anyways and our part-timers in Raina & Sehwag can do the same. 3. Drop Umesh. The guy should be asked to gt better in domestic cricket before playing intl games. If a bowler can't even bowl 2 balls at the same spot, he's not fit enough to play intl cricket.

Tendulkar is too long in the tooth to last us till the WC. In his last odi series in Aus (CB Series) he didn't average 20 and will be 42 by the time WC rolls along. I would rather have Rahane or Pujara in his place. Bowling is a huge worry as we have to score 300+ to win a match and our bowling is not good enough to either restrict or bowl out a team to defend a middle of the road total. I have no clue how to fix our bowling as nothing has really worked for us. The way things are right now I would rather have an extra batsman so that we go for a 300+ total and our part-timers can chip in. They surely can't do any worse than our so called specialist bowlers like Umesh who can't even bowl straight at the moment.

Like Raina failed in the WC Q/F against Aus and against Pakis inthe semi :facepalm: If Raina hadn't been around those 2 games we would have been knocked out of the tourney before the finals. Raina is one of the few guys you can actually depend on at crunch times in shorter formats and he has done quite well considering he bats at 6 or 7 in the batting order. He has to either hit out setting up a total or go from the get-go while chasing a total, and he has been quite successful so far. I doubt I would replace him with any no. 6 or 7 batsman playing intl cricket at the moment. You can slate Raina for his Test credentials or his less than stellar techniques but you can't diss him for his batting in shorter format undr pressure or for his fielding for that matter.
