CG Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 He did pretty well inhis debut innings in SL where he got a 100 on a turning pitch against SL spinners. I think the problem right now is more mental. Raina is putting too much pressure on himself to succeed and is focusing so much on not getting out instead of playing naturally and scoring. I have no doubt if it were an odi Raina woul dhave taken Patel to cleaners. Raina is playing the same way Yuvi played Hogg in Aus. He was expected to do well there and put so much pressure on himself that even Hogg made his bunny. I suspect something very similar in Raina's case. Its just one innings,Yuvraj problem was he could not read hogg, even dada had problems with hogg .Raina will take patel to cleaners .
Vikas Bhatt Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Dhoni sucks big time and is too biased to be a captain of a side. If he isn't sticking up for extremely bad Bhajji, his business partner, then he is sticking for losers like Raina in a test squad, who like Yuvraj is better off playing a great in shorter formats. There is a limit surely to Dhoni's tolerance for sycophants like Raina? Raina was exposed enough against Aus and SA outside India in both main formats of the game. Even a blind bat can tell you he the worst player to play tests. he is not even in Jaffar/Manjrekar league where tests are concerned let alone fill the void for Laxman or Dravid. What the hell did the idiots select Badri for if Dhoni was set on Raina?
Trichromatic Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Raina will take patel to cleaners . In T20s and ODIs or on highways.
Ultimate_Game Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Huh? That pitch was the baap of pattas with both teams scoring 600+ in the first innings. You sure it was a turning pitch? It surely wasn't that different from the current one and we reached 600 coz of Raina. Before Raina played that innings we were actually in a spot of bother and also the quality of spinners he faced in that Test was better than Patel.
gaurav92 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Raina will score here in the coming innings that he plays, but that does not take away the fact that he has to keep proving himself in Tests as it is not his forte.

The upshot is that he is a useless hack and India are wasting their time with him. He averages 40 odd in FC cricket against our trundlers on pattas. Enough for me.
Ultimate_Game Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Its just one innings' date='Yuvraj problem was he could not read hogg, even dada had problems with hogg .Raina will take patel to cleaners .[/quote'] No man it was mostly mental. That series Yuvi looked totally out of sorts. You only had to bowl straight to him to get him. IMO it was due to Indian think tank's decision to drop Sehwag, change the batting order by promoting Dravid to open just to make room for Yuvi that put so much pressure on him.

Raina had his shot earlier and it's only fair to give others a chance as well before turning back to Raina.
skindia Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Robin uthappa has better temperament compared to raina for tests..In cb series and IPL he shown that he can play long innings when he didnt take risk..He is the only batsman who got out coz of his mistake in all matches....no bowler has taken robbies wicket yet..

skindia Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 even yuvraj can be better test batsman....he never got continuous matches like raina..

He averages 40 odd in FC cricket against our trundlers on pattas. Enough for me. And at the age of 26 there is no time to go back to FC for at least 2 years and work on your temperament to play longer format.
skindia Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 let him first play odis and t20.he deserve a chance there first he is not t20 batsman....his international t20 record is poor after 2007 t20 world cup...he is odi player who takes time like kohli
Ultimate_Game Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 yes it was part mental but yuvi did not pick hogg. Yup but the decision of Indian team to bend backwards and somehow squeeze Yuvi into the team didn't help matters. I mean decision to drop an opener and asking a middle order player to open just to fit in a batsman is unheard of. Robin uthappa has better temperament compared to raina for tests..In cb series and IPL he shown that he can play long innings when he didnt take risk..He is the only batsman who got out coz of his mistake in all matches....no bowler has taken robbies wicket yet.. Relying on IPL to prove a batsman has temperament for Tests :hysterical: On a different note Uthappa should get a chance in odis as a backup wk cum a lower order batsman.
J P K Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 it is not his fault our coach moto promised a place in the test team
Trichromatic Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 He averages 40 odd in FC cricket against our trundlers on pattas. Enough for me. It's really hard to expect him to avg 40 in international cricket when he hardly achieved that in FC cricket of India where all good batsmen average over 50 and those who get chance in the team are around 60.
VRV Singh Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 too many echoes of Yuvraj even though they are different players. Fundamentally bothstruggle vs decent swing, pace and spin. Raina was playing in SL on a 650 plays 700 pitch after Murali went. Honestly watching him play Swann whilst most others played him in their sleep was quite difficult to watch. It will be (is!) a real killer for him at Test level if you have that chink, even if you find some solution against genuine pace. And i do not see why the fact that he works hard can play in his favour too much. Nearly 26 years old been around for years.
