Suresh Raina and Test match promotion

I think Raina is India's next successful upcoming test batsman. He has definitely survived important pressure situations. He has the patience to play out session after session and score according to the situation. He can play very slow to pass the time or play at run a ball to win a test game. He may be a little unorthodox as far as technique is concerned but he has what it takes to be part of India's test team for a long time. India vs SL (second test, 2010) First innings Raina 120 (228) sr. 52.63 Notes: - Involved in a huge match saving partnership with Sachin in reply to Sri Lanka's mammoth 642 - becomes only the 9th to get a debut 100 from India. India vs SL (third test, 2010) First innings Raina 62 (111) sr. 55.85 Notes: - Involved in a very important century stand with Laxman in the process to 436 in reply to SL's 425. Second innings Raina 41* (45) sr. 91.11 Notes: - Puts up 87 runs with Laxman on day 5 at a much needed pace. - Hits a confident 6 to wrap up the test match and to win it for India.

He needs a county stint to improve his technique' date=' and more importantly, he needs to stay away from IPL. IPL should be scrapped for good :([/quote'] He needs to stay away from flat tracks for a year or so.

Lets be honest, this are difficult conditions even for best of best. Even so called English team who play in this swinging condition struggled in 2nd test 1st innings and even 2nd innings to some extent.

Some batsman score few single digit score, a good century. In that case former is dropped because he is said to have poor temperament and dropped even if has more runs than later. Raina's case is similar. I'm not saying that he should be dropped because he hasn't been scoring runs. I know that batting has been tough in England. But his batting has been more disappointing than his scores. It's not about what he scored, rather it's about how he batted. If you have known weakness against short balls and you're not good against swing also, then bowler will always be on the top of you. Even on better batting conditions, they will force you on the backfoot with short balls and later dismiss with simple swinging deliveries. This is just not the way a test batsman should bat. He needs to stop playing test cricket and improve his batting. It's not easy. Probably he can join some county and spend time there. It will help him a lot. Batting on flat tracks will lead him to nowhere. You can say that there were some successful batsman who didn't play short balls very ball. If you notice, those players were very good in other areas. Take Ganguly for ex. Even though he was uncomfortable against short pitched stuff he could manage such deliveries and he was very good through off-side. Sometimes your strength in other areas compensate with some weaknesses. This is not the case with Raina. He can't change his batting a lot at this stage of his career. He has been brought up like this and he would continue to play more or less in similar way. But he can work hard and alter his batting little bit in such a way that short balls don't affect his natural batting. He is a good, learning cricketer. I hope that he improves.

Dravid iin one of his interview has already mentioned thats Rainas and Rohits doesn't have the b@lls to stand there for whole day. I guess thats sums it up, why he is soo poor in test cricket.

This topic should LOG Raina's grocery shopping and utensils washing for Dhoni household..That's the main criteria of him having a loooong Test career..

All our batsman have failed so give this poor lad a break,if you come to bat at 50-5 in every test it is damn hard.he tries hard ,field well,is working on short ball and played it well today.we have to be patient ,tajmahal was not built in a day.
