Dude winning a World Cup with the likes of Nehra' date=' Munaf, over the hill Bhajji, cr@p Sreesanth and "confident" Chawla deserves a lot of credit. He just had one go to bowler in Zak and Yuvraj as a part-timer in the middle order who bowled out of his skin. In fact we hardly managed to get a team out the whole tourney and in fact don't remember us getting any of the top teams out other than Pakistan. With such a bowling track record, winning the WC is commendable and yup as a captain he deserves a lot of credit. I am sure you would have been over him like a rash in case India had lost.[/quote'] He brought it upon himself by persisting upon nehra even though he was poor in the last two series and we all know chawla is his choice .he kept ashwin out even though he was our best spinner for bhajji. His captaincy was poor through out lacking any imagination we could not defend 320 against eng and sa and allowed srilanka to reach 290 with kulasekera taking advanatage of final overs.

Yes,was really scared till the final shot.....No matter how much our batsmen ***ra** Malinga...he is still a threat and back then he felt like a bigger treat then he is now. Yuvi had a great tournament as an allrounder but he was no where near his 2007 LOI form...Had a couple of failures against SA and Pak...Raina played a couple of gems but his form prior to that was questenioable enough for him to be benched...and then we had the tail....so yes the match was much more close than we are making it out to be

i meant it's the world cup final. Why were you guys spamming on ICF during that time?
Wasn't spamming when the match was going on. Was watching with friends and way too nervous to do anything  Spamming happened after we had won and after coming back from celebrations :yay:
Muruli was not the bowler he was previously but dhoni record against srilankan bowlers gave me assurance that we would not lose the match. On that pitch first 15 overs were important.
Murali may not have been the same player but he was still one o fthe better bowlers in the tourney and other than Dhoni nobody could take him on. His first 5-6 overs were going at 3 runs an over. It was Dhoni who took him on and that too without taking any risks. If Dhoni had failed would you really have backed India to win with Yuvi not a sure thing against spin and Raina facing the likes of Murali & Malinga? The way Dhoni chased the score was a masterclass, and just Like Gambhir made the difference. Both the knocks were great and if anyone had fallen just after Kohli it could have been game over for us.

True. You couldn't rely on Yuvi & Raina to win it against the likes of Murali & Malinga. Plus it was a WC final, hardly a run of the mill odi without much pressure. And as we showed earlier in the tourney we had a knack for imploding and nearly every game before the final our lower order collapse in a heap with our tail the worst of all the Test nations.

We couldnt rely on Yuvi and Raina? They both finished the QF against the Aussies and are one of the best finishers in the game. Raina played a vital role in the SF as well. Credit to Dhoni for coming up the order and finishing the game but saying that we couldnt rely on Yuvi and Raina is simply untrue. I rate Gambhir's knock higher than Dhoni simply becaue the period in which he played was the most precarious in the match. We lost both SRT and Viru for 30 odd runs, there was a lot of rebuilding to be done which he did with both Kohli and then Dhoni as well. His knock was one of the finest in a pressure situation. Though the match was by no means over at 115 for 3, the time when Dhoni came in, India was in a much better situation than when Gambhir was playing. As far as Murali and Malinga go, we have always done quite well against them, especially Murali who was struggling with his fitness as well.

Why not? How many times have these guys thrashed the same bowlers around the park, yesterday today and tomorrow?

Slow sluggish pitch with good turn and the opposition team has arguably the greatest spinner in their side who was coming into match with great form and the first 15 overs were important

Why not? How many times have these guys thrashed the same bowlers around the park' date=' yesterday today and tomorrow?[/quote'] Let's see.... 96 WC semi final where we were 90 odd for 1 and couldn't chase 250, 2007 WC where we fell flat against SL once again, Asia Cups in 2000s where we failed to get past SL and in one of them I do remember India needing around 110 to win in 16-17 overs with 8 wkts in hand for us to implode. In hindsight everything looks easy and chasing a target of 274 in a WC final from a position of 115/3 is supposed to be like stealing candy from a baby :giggle: I wonder if it was so easy why we couldn't do jack shyte in World Cups in earlier editions coz most of the players were the same and apparently anyone can do what Dhoni did :dontknow: As for Yuvi & Raina taking Malinga & Murali apart, I have yet to see it. Generally it's Dhoni who did against the both and Kohli who took apart Malinga recently. Doesn't mean anyone can do so especially Yuvi & Raina against Murali who as an off spinner would have an advantage against lefties and we all know how strong Yuvi is against spin.

I cant really remember Yuvi or Raina thrasing Murali much.Maybe u could provide links?
Just seen Yuvraj taking apart Murali once - it was in an ODI in SL, should be around 2009/10.
