http://newindianexpress.com/cities/chennai/article590687.ece Chennai safe, say Northeast residents By Daniel Thimmayya & Tsering Dolma - CHENNAI 17th August 2012 08:05 AM As panic forced thousands of people from Northeastern states to flee Bangalore, their friends here have been sending a spate of text messages for the last 24 hours. Å¥nt go hme..Dnt be afraid..Chennai is peace place with gud wrk..Cum here and (we will) help u, reads one that Johnson Joseph, a marketing executive in a bank, sent to his Mizo friends in the garden city. With a traditionally high number of students and a growing workforce in restaurants, hotels, shops, malls and theatres, almost all of ChennaiÃÔ Northeast populace that we met, are at peace. Ūt is sad...the kind of violence we are seeing across the country, said Johnson. Ÿe are thankful that nothing of that sort has happened in Chennai, ever. Though the plight of their fellow men from Meghalaya has upset brothers Jerry and Andrew Lyndem, they are happy that their cousins have taken up their offer. Ÿe asked our cousin Kim, studying in a college in Bangalore, to come here for a month. Our family is confident that she will be safe here, said Andrew.

Isolated examples doesnt mean that its prevalent everywhere. I have seen plenty of cases of racism by local kannadigas towards North easterners (yes the same chinky 5h1t), africans have it even worse. Every now and then conductors do abuse north Indian labourers when they arent able to talk in Kannada. In my previous office, a group of cab drivers once ganged up and beat up a gurkha security guard who asked them not to park at a place. Yet, by and large Bangalore is very peaceful and welcoming towards immigrants. Of course there will be idiots and isolated incidents of friction between people who come from vastly different cultures. Letting outsiders in their city isnt some favor that locals do to immigrants that they should expect deference in return. People are there because of demand for labour. Techies are there because there is demand in the IT industry, Laborers are there because they work longer hours for the same cost and cause very few labour problems compared to locals. If there are unfriendly conditions for immigrants and the flow stops, it will hurt growth and indirectly affect locals.
tempted to say , the locals are lazy ? I have also heard the migrants have made bangalore 'cooler ' :)) ...its the same tone people use for marathis in Mumbai as well .

Conveniently you missed the smiley , eh ? I have lived in both the cities , Mumbai and Bangalore to know the actual situation . its not just the types of Raj Thakery or Vatal Nagraj (? ) who have spoiled the image , also the new influx is equally responsible . you can keep complaining , but the fact is Marathi's and Kannadigas are the most welcomming people in India , but unfortunately the ones who migrate ( especially the recent ones ) have turned out to be the ungreatful types . you live here , but wont think twice before bad mouthing the locals . why do you think people specifically disllike the ones from UP , Bihar , Delhi and Haryana ..not Gujjus , Marwaris , Punjabis , NE's or Bengalis ? I have seen people from NE harrased right in front of my eyes in Mumbai , guess by who ? Not the local Marathis .
You sure you are not some closet bigot? I mean you dont think you are, and yet you are. If it comes to open up Pandora's box on state based revulsion do you think it is that hard to pick issues against a Tamil or a Kannadiga?? Think again..and don't go there :winky:

Lol thats a very detailed and specific dislike: UP, Bihar, Delhi and Haryana, but not Punjab, Marwari, NE  If it is true, it is as if Bangaloreans have turned high precision bigotry into a science. But I am sure it is just something in jusarrived's head. I mean it is almost impossible to hate so specifically.

You do know, or maybe dont, that the father of MNS beat Gujjus and Southies in Mumbai. No? And Punjabis were beaten in Delhi. And Bengalis in Bihar. So now what? :nervous:

The Shiv Sena was against "Madrasis" earlier. Their slogan was "Lungi uthao, pungi bajao". Then it became anti Muslims. And now it is anti UP/Biharis, while still maintaining the anti Muslim ideology. MNS beat up UPites/Biharis because that is the present target. Wait and see they will find a new enemy to blame in future. Oh btw, mera Bhaarat mahaan!

I know that , but you realize there is a huge difference now ...popular support from locals . So this happens every where , then why single out Mumbai or Bangalore ?

Because Bihar is poorer for migration of Bengalis. Because Sikh killings in Delhi was shameful. Because it should be shameful and embarassing for Banglore and Mumbai in same vein? :winky2:

During my last visit to chennai In lot of restaurants i saw only them. There was lot of communication problem though with them. Orders were not taken properly. We ordered one thing. But got something else. Don't think they are made to feel unsafe though.
From what i've seen the people from the N.E are very friendly and love socialising with us.Dont think they have anything to fear in Chennai as they will have the support of the locals

We have students from many parts of the country in our uni but i've noticed that people from these two states are more brash and tend to throw around abuses freely. Yet no one disturbs them unless they start messing around too much which they usually dont.

When were Punjabi's beaten in Delhi? If you are mentioning 1984 riots then that was totally a different story. That was on the basis of religous line not on regional.HKL Bhagat and Jagdish Tytlet two of the main culprits of 1984 riots were punjabi's

Exodus from Chennai continues Students and workers from the north-eastern States continued to leave Chennai in large numbers on Friday, even as Chief Minister Jayalalithaa assured them that they were safe in Tamil Nadu. The rush to board trains bound for Howrah and Guwahati continued, with hundreds of youngsters, including women, purchasing tickets to these destinations. Southern Railway operated special trains and attached extra coaches to scheduled trains. Asking people not to believe baseless rumours, police maintained that there was no specific threat to the North-East population. Toll-free helpline numbers (9840295100, 9677066100 and 9789088100), which would be functional round the clock, were set up by the Chennai Police. Ms. Jayalalithaa said the Tamil Nadu had always been peaceful and the government would ensure that people from all parts of India faced no difficulty. ªénstructions have been given to Commissioners/Superintendents of Police to enhance surveillance in areas where those from the North-East stay. We are telling them not to panic and their safety is paramount, Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) S. George said. Commissioner of Police J.K. Tripathy held a meeting with office-bearers of an association of North-East youth to reassure them. «ñhere is no input of any threat to these people. There has been no instance of any untoward incident, he said. At the Chennai Egmore and Central railway stations, the rush to board trains bound for Howrah, Guwahati and Dibrugarh continued. ªá large number of people have purchased tickets and are waiting for special trains. We have deployed adequate manpower to regulate and guide the crowd. Besides scheduled trains, a couple of special trains are expected to be operated on Friday night, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Railways) Thillai Natarajan said. http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/chennai/article3786374.ece
So why are north east people leaving chennai, are they being targeted there too.I thought you genuinely opened this thread to talk about a sensitive matter but it seems like your intention was to just show a certain city in poor light and to big up your own city. You only want to see what you want to see.You still dint mention what attacks have happened in bangalore.

A lot of NE are still in Chennai. No way Muslims can cause any problems in Chennai. Not enough numbers and JJ will crush them. KK might have played some games but he is not in power and already has enough children in prisons. There are some videos in ibnlive which suggest some minor attacks.
