Clarke Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 This nonsense of reservations is the single biggest reason that prevents me (and probably a lot more of other disillusioned individuals) from considering voting for these Kangressis. You had decades of your rule to establish a reasonable grassroots education system that covered the opressed masses. The focus instead is to keep piling on one reservation after another, be it quality schools, higher education, public sectors jobs and they even attempted to screw up the private sector for their vote banks. Someone ought to show the leadership the figures on corruption index, ease of doing business etc as compared to other countries. Instead of efforts to improve governance by encouraging meritrocracy in public sector promotions, they move in the opposite direction. Heck, if someone shows them the suggested figures, they might be arrested for offending the sentiments of Kangressis :hatsoff:
CG Posted December 14, 2012 Author Posted December 14, 2012 I think any reservation should be provided for just 1 generation. It should not trickle down to the heirs. The thought process - "We have done enough to uplift your social status now you have to fly in the world and take control of your own destiny". "I am the captain of my ship, the master of my soul." ~ Invictus It was meant to by makers of constitution. But Political parties have exploited it .
CG Posted December 14, 2012 Author Posted December 14, 2012 So' date=' it is time to change it?[/quote'] It should have abolished after 1st generation or some 25 years .But it still going on which just gives many undue benefits .No political party has guts to abolish it.
Tiger80 Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 So' date=' it is time to change it?[/quote'] Who can change it? The one that benefited from reservation are in powerful position and why will they allow any rule to change which will hurt them.It is human nature to take benefit in the name of caste , gender , religion , region etc . But whenever its time take this benefit off then start crying with all the sob stories and conspiracy theories.
someone Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Who can change it? The one that benefited from reservation are in powerful position and why will they allow any rule to change which will hurt them. Correct. Our decision makers have used this system for their success and they do not gain anything in altering it. Actually, they will lose a lot instead as it will only increase their insecurity.
Clarke Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Does anyone even debate this in parliament ? You have able bodied individuals holding secure govt jobs & taking a monthly salary for years (that's when promotion comes), why then does the govt need to reserve important positions based on their ancestry/last name ?
AGHORI Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 I belong to upper caste, still lot of people who belongs to scheduled caste are very poor and they need support,Only few state goverments succeeded in implementing various policies started for the upliftment of these people.I think its our collective responsibility to support these people. At the same time lot of upper class people are living below poverty line.So the goverment should address their problems also.
Crookbond Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 ^ I am not any of the upper castes and neither the lower castes. My parents worked and were never supported by any government. They worked day/night, fed me and made ends meet to provide the best for me. So, I am now a "middle class" person who has worked his way (despite reservation) to provide for me & my family. Question - Why is it my responsibility to take care of the scheduled caste? Sure they are poor and I can empathize with them. But, I don't understand why it is my responsibility to do so. If anything, it is the government's responsibility to take care of them. Where do I come into the picture? :dontknow:
Clarke Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 ^ Your people oppressed them, its payback time now :finger:

You pay taxes, which pay for govt employees, some of which will be reserved category. Similarly, your money goes to fund schemes for other poor people. What is so hard to understand ? :wall:
Crookbond Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 ^ Your people oppressed them' date= its payback time now :finger:
punjabi_khota Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Lol, that goes without saying. You still won a lottery by not being born to a beggar on the street in India, or in sub-saharan Africa. The kids who are born there are being penalized for something they didn't do either. So, it comes with the territory.
KhanSaab Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 So' date=' I am done as far as taxes are being paid. It looks like I'm penalized twice for mistakes of an earlier society which I may have never been a part of.[/quote'] Perhaps you benefited from the wealth accumulated by past generations.
Clarke Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Perhaps you benefited from the wealth accumulated by past generations. News flash: It was a day to day struggle for most of the non-lower groups as well, pre/post Independence.
Crookbond Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Perhaps you benefited from the wealth accumulated by past generations. I just said I did not!

To my country and my people, I pledge my devotion. In their well-being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness.
punjabi_khota Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 I just said I did not! Look I don't want to digress too much here, and I don't support this jobs reservation crap AT ALL, but you are being too simplistic here. The fact that you were even born may be down to your ancestors being non-dalit. The way dalits were treated, obviously means they had much worse living conditions and probably health expectancy etc. You see where I am going.
CG Posted December 15, 2012 Author Posted December 15, 2012 This will be struck down by SUPREME Court in its current form as it violates basic structure of the constitution.
someone Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 This will be struck down by SUPREME Court in its current form as it violates basic structure of the constitution. I wouldn't be so sure on that. As long, as the key parties get some political points from this scheme, it will continue and get implemented.
