India 2008-12: Best ODI team in the world?

Just a thought that came up while I was checking out some stats using statsguru (we Indians love statistics, dont we ? :winky:). Arguably, one of our biggest ODI success (apart from the couple of WCs) was the triumph over the Aussies in Australia for the first time ever in 2008. Under Dhoni's captaincy, India actually competed throughout the Tri-series (one of the few series in which India always struggled traditionally) and won in the finals 2-0 (again a rarity if you consider that team had Gilly, Symonds, Hayden, etc.) For me it changed the approach to ODI's for the team under Dhoni. Do you people remember how the same Aussie team defeated India 5-2 (If I am correct) in India a few months before the CB series? But after that series, suddenly we became competitive even away from home (Heck we won 2 matches in SA which is the same number of won matches there by India before that series :giggle:) Take a look at this graphic: http://s13.postimage.org/ubjpm5t5j/Since_CB_series_2008.png]Since_CB_series_2008.png Can you believe it? Excluding the minnows and as usual BAN and ZIM, look at the statistics. Mind blowing Even if we include the minnows, India still is the 2nd best team in that period. One interesting part about this below image is that if you compare the team W/L records with the above pic, we can clearly make out who all are minnow bashers  http://s17.postimage.org/bsbwf4evj/Minnow_bashers.jpg]Minnow_bashers.jpg And lastly, if you look at the last year since the WC (yes we had a disastrous year in terms of the Aus and ENG tour), we still are...........No. 2  http://s7.postimage.org/uw6i6g4l7/12_months.png]12_months.png Though ENG is at the top (even rankings suggest that), they are a pussy in the SC. The point I am trying to make here is that often people critisize India for being HTB and what not? Heck, even some say winning the WC was a fluke last year. But the stats prove that India, apart from being the official world champions, are the top most team in ODI cricket for some time now (even before the WC). Interestingly, while we are a shadow of our past in tests in ODI's aleast, we are still a team to compete with.

Thanks Lankans :hail: :hatsoff:
One thing I missed, Pakistan has a record of 32 won and 43 lost against the top teams (excluding BAN and ZIM). But they won 28 matches against the minnows :omg: That takes there W/L from 0.74 to 1.39 :--D Talk about the ultimate minnow bashers :giggle:

True That :haha: I am surprised that they have won 32 matches lately :haha: then again, they don't have home ground advantage :cantstop:

I think ever since that 2007 world cup debacle uptil 2011 world cup we have been the best ODI side. Since then we lost 3-0 in England, didn't make CB series final, kicked out of Asia cup by BD

India were the best team 2008-2011 Ebgand have been the best team in 2012, I dont think weve even lost a game! We have white washed Pakistan away (4-0) Windies (with IPL stars) and then world number 1 Australia (4-0)

No doubt. But Eng has to replicate this form in a World Cup else their odi side wil continue to be butt of jokes - not as bad as SA but close enough
