Were Chetan Chauhan/ Sanjay Manjrekar better batsmen than VVS/Ganguly?

Today someone wrote More with a batting record of 1200+ runs@ 26 is a better batsman than Dhoni (3700 runs@38) as he scored those runs in an era when pitches were tougher and run scoring was a difficult job. Made me think if Chetan Chauhan with a record of 2000 runs@32 and and Manjrekar with a record of 2000+ runs@37 are better than VVS (or for that matter Ganguly) as they played on almost similar pitches as More (even though Chauhan retired in early 80s). Your thoughts?
