HOLY SHITE! :hysterical: Sanga averaged 7.45 against England AT HOME and Amla averaged 121 against England IN ENGLAND! Seriously feel bad for Amla and Ajmal, those guys were so unlucky this time.
Why are we even surprise? ICC awards taking place in SL, so they had to make sure home ppl are happy..btw Dharmasena for Umpire of the Year? really? how and when did that happen?

You would do well to look at the qualification period . Not Sept to Sept as you have assumed, rather August to August (04 Aug 2011 to 06 Aug 2012. Sanga - 14 tests, 1444 runs@60, 5 100s Amla - 10 tests, 915 runs@65, 3 100s (one third of those runs coming in a single knock) Overall, Sanga has been better, primarily because many a times he has fought a lone battle for his team, especially vs Pakistan's world class spinners. Though I must say Philander deserved to be the Test player of the year. To Sanga's test record add another 1457 ODI runs@42, 42 dismissals as a ODI keeper and you would know why he fully deserves to be the Cricketer of the year. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=11;orderby=runs;spanmax1=06+aug+2012;spanmin1=04+aug+2011;spanval1=span;template=results;type=allround

Wait' date=' Sachin should take a hint as he was nominated and didn't win? So what kind of hint should those cricketers take who didn't even get nominated[/quote'] sachin might be thinking along those lines... "at least i got nominated, so i still have it in me"

sanga deserved the cricket of the year award without doubt. i don't get how philander even got nominated for that without representing all formats. test player should have been either amla or philander.

I always thought that Amla is going to sweep these awards but he ended up with none. In my perception, Sanga had not done enough to be a ICC cricketer and test cricketer of the year award.

WTF is this dragging around for? There is a minimum qualification of 10 ODIs to be played in the time period. Amla does not qualify and that's that.
what about test award?

Sangakarra is as good if not better. One third of Amla's runs have come in one knock as pointed out earlier. The point is it is not a gaffe as people are making it out to be.

People banging on about min ODI qualification period, so why is Philander on the list? This guy hasn't even played a single ODI in his career, yet finds himself shortlisted for the cricketer of the year award. Surely not another oversight by ICC and their panel of "experts"...

One thing going against Amla and Philander is that they played for a much stronger team (yes it's not their fault). Most of the time when batsmen are facing philander from one end they have to face either Steyn or Morkal from the other end. And then, the 2nd, 3rd or 4th batting performances for South Africa are not far behind from Amla's record in the given period. On the other hand Sanga was always under more pressure than those two because SL had a very poor run as team during this period because of various reasons. If someone argue that matters like this which you can't control shouldn't be considered, then yes but it should be equal for all the matters like that. One example is no one should question the conditions the players are playing. Last year Sanga toured South Africa after a 8 years gap from his previous tour to that country. So it's not fair to demand him to perform the same way in different conditions like the batsmen who gets much more regular opportunities.

My 'imba' defense would be that ICC places Test matches at a higher priority than ODIs. :D Btw, Jairam seriously - it was not like there was a huge difference between Amla and Sangakkara was there?

are you high? philander has been playing odis since 2007, and played odis against SL in jan 2012. but your 'point' holds.
