Both the openers picked up a wicket each. It's clear Dhoni thinks Shami is more capable with a slightly older ball than the other two while Shami has far from established his credentials with the new ball. Three matches against Australia isn't enough.

I just think he is decent with the older ball too. I have seen him reverse in Ranji and he can hit the deck hard . He could have bowled first change.

Actually this is his one weak point that he is not able to mange attacking bowlers and groom pace bowlers. His defensive ploys have worked so far but also caused to turn bowlers like Ashwin into defensive options and seam bowlers to fade out

Which Indian captain have done that before i.e grooming pace bowlers? Its not about Dhoni, Indian pitches or the whole set up fails them. And dude I can accept that as your POV and there have been lot of times when he has messed up with field placements, but do we have a better replacement? Dhoni has been a great servant to Indian cricket and deserves some respect.

Like it or not but the world cup, t20 cup, CL, rankings does make him quite successful. Its not like we were 5 time world cup winners or ranked #1 for 20 years in tests before Dhoni became captain
