"He's a guy who has got a lot of tricks up his sleeve and always thinks he can learn new stuff," captain Darren Sammy said of Narine after the match. "When you see him practice he's always trying new things. New run-ups, new actions, he just looks to improve his game all the time." West Indies now move into the Super Eights without having won or completed a full match. Their batting looks as powerful as that of any team in the tournament, but despite a good outing against Ireland, questions remain about their bowling against top opposition. Narine has already proved himself adept at this format, having earned the purple cap in this year's IPL, and perhaps he can be the bowler who quells those fears and propels his side deep into the competition.

Spinners in the T20 / England vs Windies How are England going to handle Narine? Are they going to simply play him out and go after the pacemen? Do the Windies have enough quality spinners? After England's collapse in the last match it's going to be interesting to see how they face spin bowling. Definitely the right time for spinners to go after them and get into their heads. I mean, apart from Narine there doesn't appear to be a proper spinner in the side. Russell gets taken to the cleaners, even by the likes of Ireland, the other pacemen were expensive against Ireland and Aussie as well. Sammy is a medium-pacer, and I don't rate Gayle too highly as a part-timer, he gets hit around the park quite easily. At the end of the day, subcontinental tournaments will always favor spinners even if the odd pitch looks good for pace. You can't afford to turn up without enough spin bowlers. England, and to an extent SA, are in the same position. SA have top quality pacers though, and they've got experience bowling in the subcontinent in T20's, so they still don't get badly hurt by it. EDIT: I ended up writing about other stuff as well, so I guess it's turned into a 'double' thread.

England had a bit day at the office on sunday but its worth pointing out that we recently beat Paistan away 4-0 in ODI's and they included only 1 seemer and 4 spinners in 1 odi. Also India only scored 17 runs of swans 4 overs so they also struggled to some extent.

why do WI persist with Sammy? He is useless in limited overs cricket.he never bowls his full quota and sometimes doesnt bowl at all and his batting is negligible.He is really holding that team back and its a crying shame.

Simple...when Sammy was not in the team....the team lost nearly every match (& it had all the so called star players). The WI team without Sammy played like individuals. With Sammy as captain.....even Gayle was forced to play for the WI team as a team member rather then individual. Also under Sammy WI have won more games then in their last decade without Sammy.

Lol u don't need proper spinners to bundle out England. Gayle Samuels and Sammy are more than enough provided the pitch is low and slow
