BBC's Test Match Special allowed to broadcast from Test venues during India v England series

There were fears that the BBC, and Sky television, would be locked out of stadiums for the four-Test series following an impasse in discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is understood that the BCCI had requested additional payment to cover costs of facilitating their productions during the four-Test series, which begins in Ahmedabad on November 15. While a Sky deal remains unlikely, it was considered essential for the BBC's flagship Test Match Special programme to be present at matches. The BBC have not commented on reports that a fee of £50,000 had been demanded by the BCCI, but confirmed a deal had been concluded. "We are pleased to confirm that Test Match Special will broadcast England's cricket tour of India from the grounds after agreement was reached with all parties," a spokesman said.

Yes that 2000 square feet for BBC was a misunderstanding - It was clearly for Sky. But the demand from BBC is only 50K pounds for 20 days of cricket. Hardly in the realm of preposterous. Can't understand the moral outrage from them and our chest beating rudaali gangadeens.

Looks like our gangadeen in his haste to show the loyalty has overlooked the facts. Party spoiled again!
Yes that 2000 square feet for BBC was a misunderstanding - It was clearly for Sky. But the demand from BBC is only 50K pounds for 20 days of cricket. Hardly in the realm of preposterous. Can't understand the moral outrage from them and our chest beating rudaali gangadeens.

Did the BBC anywhere deny that they don't need 2000 square feet of space? No such denial was issued so I'll trust BCCI gave a correct estimate ; - ) Wobbly - Like many have noted before till recently BBC didn't pay for covering cricket but ECB decided one day to charge them. Was that against the spirit of the game as well? Or did you ungrudgingly accept that as being in accord with the spirit of commerce? Overall an excellent public spectacle for us and as BCCI's cheerleader I am pleased how things have wound up. Look forward to several such Machiavellian moves from the BCCI going forward which will leave Wobbly and our ganga deens indignant.

so do the BCCI's, but you need to have a broadcast contract for that first, which Star TV has and so they are getting the facilitties. what Sky has is a sub license for broadcasting Star's feed in the UK. The simpler solution for them would have been to have had Nasser, Atherton, Bumble etc work with the BCCI/Star team of Gavaskar, Manjrekar, Ganguly etc like they did for the Pak-Eng series when they took Ten cricket's feed but had Botham, Hussein, Bumble and Atherton work alongisde Waqar, Ramiz etc. The sky commentators didnt want to be part of the BCCI mouth piece and so they wanted a studio & all facilitites at each ground - which may or may not actually cost 500,00 the BCCI is aksing for but are going to come for free either.
