rkt.india Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 The fast bowler Pat Cummins is expected to miss nearly all of the 2012-13 season due to a stress fracture in his lower back. The diagnosis means Cummins, 19, will not be part of the Test series against South Africa or Sri Lanka, and almost certainly will not be considered for the Test tour of India in February, while his possible involvement in the Ashes tour of England might depend on whether he is able to play any first-class cricket before then. Cummins, 19, has not played a first-class match since his Test debut last November in Johannesburg, where he collected seven wickets and was Man of the Match. Australia's selectors had hoped he would be available for the third Test against South Africa at the WACA, but scans in Melbourne this week confirmed that he would be out of the equation for an extended period. Cummins had back soreness during the Champions League Twenty20 but kept playing, including in the Sydney Sixers' victory in the final. That might have seemed a risky course of action given his injury history, but Australia's team physio Alex Kountouris said the niggle at the Champions League did not appear a major issue. "He had a little bit of back pain towards the back end of the Champions League, which wasn't a big concern," Kountouris said. "He played all the games and was training and was functioning okay. But because of his age and his history we decided to investigate it and unfortunately he's got an early stage stress fracture of his spine, which is disappointing. "The good news is we've got it nice and early, because we have had a high index of suspicion with him. Now we're going to manage it early and expect to get a good outcome from it. He's now going to start his rehab. We do expect him to miss most of the season, if not all of it. But he will come back and he'll be fine once he gets back in to playing cricket again. "Pat had a spine bone stress injury a few years ago but the current injury is new and in an entirely different part of the spine. We expect he will recover fully from this injury and will be closely monitored to determine his return to the playing field, but expect that he will miss most of the 2012-13 domestic cricket season." Cummins missed most of last summer due to a foot injury and has managed only four first-class matches - including his Test debut - in his short career. He also suffered a side strain during the one-day tour of England this year and was sent home mid-series. His latest injury means Australia will have one less bowler to rotate through the Test attack this summer, which could mean a heavier workload for James Pattinson and Mitchell Starc. Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus are the mature-bodied fast bowlers in the group, while there remains a chance of Ryan Harris recovering from injury in time for the series against Sri Lanka. http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/content/current/story/589383.html ______________________________________________________________ It shows back stress fracures are pretty usual in teenage and early 20s for genuine quick bowlers, especially there are some flawsa in bowling action and approach and Cummins certainly has some flaws which will keep him busy with these injuries if he does not iron out them.
Utalk Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Big blow to young man. These young bowlers should be kept away from meaningless t20s. Test cricket needs him.
BeautifulGame Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 He certainly is rivalling Aaron in injury record :((
rkt.india Posted November 2, 2012 Author Posted November 2, 2012 Big blow to young man. These young bowlers should be kept away from meaningless t20s. Test cricket needs him. Ih he cannot prevent his injuries bowling 4 overs in a T20 match, how could he bowl 40 overs in a test match. These injuries are normal. He should not be playing test match at all for the time being. He will be ruined otherwise. He is too young for that. He needs at least 2 years for his body to get stronger and the most important thing rectify his bowling action whcih will always put his back in danger.
IKnowU Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 His body is still growing, one of the major contributions to these injuries. Nothing wrong with that.
India-KXIP fan Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 His body is still growing' date=' one of the major contributions to these injuries. Nothing wrong with that.[/quote'] I think his growth plates would have fused by now. He's 19, especially since he's such a fast bowler he probably developed faster than other kids. He's finished growing but injury prone most likely. Maybe not cause for some they fuse at 22 but being a fast bowler he's probably fairly developed and his fused at 18 Im guessing.

Im around the same age and I have stress fractures too occasionally playing cricket. Only thing is I dont train/play as intensively as them, so I have much more time to rest, heal and have a break between matches etc.

vamos_rafa Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Sucks I live in oz and have to compete with these great athletes :nervous: Oh.. sad. Come back to India man. Oz does not know how to treat trundlers.
IKnowU Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 Oh.. sad. Come back to India man. Oz does not know how to treat trundlers. I know right? If I come to India, do you think I can get a IPL contract?
vamos_rafa Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 I know right? If I come to India' date=' do you think I can get a IPL contract? [/quote'] Yeah, just sign a contract with Tenvic. the requirement is that you should bowl 120 KMPH and more importantly, should have no ability to swing or seam the ball by more than half an inch. for further details, you can contact Srinath Arvind or in case vinay Kumar.
rkt.india Posted November 2, 2012 Author Posted November 2, 2012 I know right? If I come to India' date=' do you think I can get a IPL contract? [/quote'] Join MRF, will be easy.
India-KXIP fan Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 :cantstop: Body of most human beings develop by 24-25 years of age. lol Ok. I meant growth plates fusing. You can pack mass at any age. His bones are not going to grow, he's developed faster than other kids. Even mine are fused already at a younger age than him (X ray). Some people take till 22.
Bradman99 Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 This guy could be massive, but I just fear that he wont ever get to show it.
G_B_ Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 another shane bond in the making i am afraid. If i was his advisory, maybe he needs to make a quick call on his future. I think he had a good champions league and is handy with the bat. A shaun tait future might be his best bet.
