Bindra questions Kapil's 'real motive' behind joining ICL PTI CHANDIGARH, August 31: Former BCCI President IS Bindra on Friday questioned Kapil Dev's real motive in joining the Indian Cricket League, saying he went there to make quick bucks but was trying to rationalise his decision by camouflaging it in name of the game's development. "If Kapil's mission was to develop cricket at grassroots level then Chairmanship of the NCA (National Cricket Academy) was a perfect platform," Bindra said. "Poaching players from an existing system and claiming to be a missionary is duplicity, to put it mildly. One does not grudge anyone making millions but there is no need to rationalise by camouflaging the real motive," he wrote on the website of the Punjab Cricket Association. Bindra, currently a BCCI office-bearer, also lashed out at the former all rounder for spreading misinformation that the no one from the Board communicated with him before sacking him as NCA Chairman. "Kapil has been saying ad nauseam that no-one from the Board has met him to tell him why he has been relieved of his responsibilities as NCA chairman. "Let him touch his heart and admit what had been discussed when he met the Board President on July 16 and then me, a couple of days before the ICL launch. "Both Sharad Pawar and I made it clear to him that his position as chairman of the National Cricket Academy would be untenable once he had made up his mind to take up the ICL directorship," he said. "He had even been told about the Working Committee resolution to the effect," Bindra said. Bindra also rebuffed Kapil's allegation that former players were not speaking against Board because they were expecting some benefits in return. "It is funny to find Kapil saying players are scared to talk against the Board as they are looking for some crumbs like a coach's post or manager's assignment. "It is not only insulting but also grossly unfair to some of our highly respected former players. "(And) Does it mean he has kept quiet for over a decade only to enjoy positions like the coach of the Indian team, chairman of the Grounds and Pitches Committee, consultant for fast bowlers and the NCA chairmanship?" asked Bindra. The PCA President asked Kapil to stop "emotional blackmail" by claiming he was only a poor worker interested in cricket and welfare of the players. "Yes, they may not match his heights financially, but the Board has received any number of letters from not only players but also some widows of former players who profusely thanked the Board for taking care of them under the benevolent scheme. Bindra also said the ICL could never be a vehicle for promotion of the game at the grassroots level as it was a money-driven venture. "By its very nature ICL can't be a vehicle for promotion of the game at grassroots level. Contract clauses and involvement of ILFS makes it abundantly clear that continuance of business is dependant on its capacity to make money." http://cricket.indiatimes.com/Kapil_joined_ICL_for_money_Bindra/articleshow/2327970.cms Bindra is a joker...but he makes a lot of sense here.....

altho he does make a few valid points.....
Which valid points holysmoke?? Kapil was still working for NCA, wasn't he? He didn't leave the job! It was BCCI which sacked him. And can I question Mr. Bindra's motive for being in BCCI? What is he doing there? What has he done for Indian cricket so far? Why did the whole Punjab team desert the state duties citing the reason as mistreatment from the broad while Bindra is at the helm of PCA???
