I can understand your sentiment mate. Yes it was a bit harsh on Shwetabh to call SRT a leach, but in some ways it is not completely out of context is it? But maybe what u have mentioned is the issue? The sportsmen have moved away from fans? Had they been listening to their fans, instead of their Marketing Managers, BCCI head honchos etc., they would have heard loud and clear on what fans wanted? Honestly speaking in the last few months I haven't found many fans asking for his retirement. - in fact most cricket fans I have met feel that he still has 1-2 years of cricket left in him and he will certainly come back in good form and with the retirements of Dravid and VVS, the team needs him more than ever. Its only on ICF that a large number of fans seem to be hellbent on not only wanting his retirement but also insulting him as much as possible. And its not as if the fans on ICF are any more knowledgeable about the game than the people I have met - its become a sort of culture here to criticize him. Again, I think its only on ICF that people feel that he has been cut down to size and that his legacy of 23 years has been tarnished because of his form in the last few months.

What's the rationale behind removing Bangladesh and Zimbabwe - presumably the fact that their bowling attacks were poor, I guess? Ignoring the fact that Zimbabwe had a decent attack till early 2000s, then why not give more weight to performing against the better bowling attacks among the remaining 8? Kallis has piled on runs against West Indies and New Zealand and failed against the better Australian, Pakistani, and English attacks. How is that factored in this simplistic analysis?

This. Show me Kallis vs Aus,Pak and Eng, and then show me SRT, then let's see. Remove WI and NZ as well. But you won't because you already know what result you want to show!

I think the real reason for this is that lately fans have begun to feel (and behave) as if they own the sports persons. Maybe its because of too much in depth coverage of the sports on TV/Internet or due to some other reasons but the relationship between the sports persons and fans has definitely changed in the last few years.

I think you are right on the money on that one. However you are confusing the wrong lot associated with this. Folks like me, Shwetabh, Yoda and many others have seen Sachin from the start of his career. We have also seen folks like Sunny & Kapil, albeit only a fraction of their career. The utility for Gavaskar or Kapil for India was, for me, inherently far more than a Sachin. The next batsman after Sunny was Mohinder Amarnath. Kapil next best bowler was Roger Binny. While for SRT it was Dravid/Sehwag. See the huge difference. To us he was always a player, a great player, one of the ATG but still just a player. You wont find me or folks of my generation celebrating Sunny and Kapil as God, or someone who did no wrong. And we are as passionate as the next generation who celebrate SRT. However the latter generation also seems to be blind as bat. So the question perhaps is not if fans think players owe them, but surely what group of fans think so?? I think it is your generation, I mean just look at your moniker :winky:

Well Ponting was part of a lot of major losses which would have been unheard of in the era of Australian dominance. You can't compare the fall of the Indian and Australian teams as the same entity because their starting points were different. Yeah, Australia did not go through a 0-8, but neither were India one of the top 3 teams of all time like Australia. Ponting did get a lot of rope - it would be stubborn to deny that. But that should not discount from the broader point that you are making, which is that Tendulkar has run out of rope and should be sacked ideally. I agree on that, but let's not make Ponting the benchmark for Tendulkar.

I have a question ... do you consider our level of bowling any higher than those 2 countries? In the early 2000's, ZIM's bowling was at it's best and in the recent times BAN's bowling is most likely better than our sorry line up of bowlers (which for some Fudged up reason also includes the likes of JADEJA - FACE PALM NEEDED!!!) ... so to say MINNOW dosen't quite cut it when you are comparing the batsmen's average ... Am lost for trying to understand your common sense Might as well edit out our bowling from for non indian players aswell ...
