I think it has gone well beyond at this point. Right now the leader of Congress, President and Speaker of LS, arguably the 3 highest position in the country (although the first one is largely illegal lol) are occupied by women. Add to that the fact Delhi CM is also a woman. One would expect them to be highly sensitive to the issue and take appropriate action. So what has happened?
What has happened ? Don't we all know that it's all about corruption and making as much ghoos as possible. 15 years ago Congress used to take 5-7 crore for issuing one MLA ticket and it used to eat dived into 3 ,1 to Sonia, 1 to party and believe it or not, one to Priyanka. I know this because I heard from a congressi ex MLA who was in his late 70s and said that he couldn't afford a ticket anymore as people were bidding even more. Now, how will the MLA make this money back in a few years without being corrupt and mind you these numbers are Pre-2000 era. So the bottom line is that politicians are in the business to just make money and they milked it during the last 12 years, now economy is down and people have realized that nothing changed during the period of boom. Lets see the bandook that policemen have, it's the same as 20 years ago, sarkari offices are also the same ( Jal, bijli etc). Traffic is worse, parking isn't there, there is no planning Kuch Nahi hai. One example, in a normal civil court case one expects to spend all day (9-5) and if lucky the judge will get to his case by 5 pm and will hear for 2-5 mins. Yes family court matters and child custody court matters are heard for 5 mins every 3-4 months. What right does a woman have here, what can a woman get when judge has no way to find out the assets a man has and you can't blame the judge as there are no central records so all this BS of women rights etc is time pass as these things which really matter for women and even men. Just imagine if a father is trying to see his kids after separating from his wife, wife can easily make sure that the father NEVER gets to see the kids. Sorry for the rant.

I feel so sad for the victim...:((...the rapists don't deserve to live....sex starved maniac scum
They were not sex starved. In fact the leader was a pretty sexually active man and even eloped with a young girl recently. Please please please stop such false assumptions about rape. A sex starving man will not insert a rod inside a woman or hit her with it for hours. Rape is always about power and demeaning women. If you don't understand rape, you will never prevent it. The rapists wanted to teach the girl a lesson for being out with a man. Rape was used as a weapon for the same.

Relavant http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/opinion/columns/rasheeda-bhagat/rape-is-about-power-not-lust/article4235631.ece An example of the respect our Police babus and society has for women http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/sep/16/india.gender
But it was rape that Yadav used to break and humiliate the community. A rape victim lives in every other house in the slum, say the residents of Kasturba Nagar. He violated women to control men, ordering his henchmen to drag even girls as young as 12 to a nearby derelict building to be gang-raped.
When one 22-year-old reported being raped by Yadav, the police accused her of having an affair with him and sent her away. Several others were sent away after being told: "You're a loose woman. That's why he raped you."
As he walked in, Yadav spotted one of the women he had raped. He called her a prostitute and threatened to repeat the crime against her. The police laughed.
Also remember the incident where a guy and his help raped and murdered kids. I think India has atleast 1,00,000 serial killers, serial rapists and serial child molesters roaming around freely. Given the way society treats women I think only 1% of the rapes are reported. Most of the child missing cases are simply closed saying they may have run away. Some of the recent issues are so embarassing (father, uncle, brother and their friends violating a girl in Kerala and mother keeping silent). Our home minister is worried about what a dictator (Putin) will think about India.

UP rape victim raped by cops probing case LUCKNOW: A gang-rape victim from Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar Nagar, who was again violated by the investigating officer (IO) probing her case, has now alleged that she was also raped by the inspector in charge of the police station where she had lodged her complaint. While the IO was arrested on December 14, no action has been taken against the inspector. Now the victim has written to the chief minister for justice. Maan Singh, a senior sub inspector (SSI) posted at Akbarpur police station in Ambedkar Nagar, was arrested on December 14 from a hotel in Faizabad by SSP D S Yadav. The arrest came after the SSP was informed that the cop had brought the gang-rape victim from Ambedkar Nagar to the hotel and was raping her. The victim was rescued from the room after the cop was caught with his pants down. Now the rape victim has alleged that in-charge of the Akbarpur Kotwali, inspector AK Upadhyay, had also raped her. As per the woman, she was gang-raped in Ambedkar Nagar last month. Her family had lodged an FIR in this connection at the Akbarpur police station. Maan Singh was the IO of the case. Allegations are that after the police failed to initiate any action against the accused, the victim approached the SSI who promised to help her. He then suggested that she should accompany him to Faizabad and appear before the deputy inspector general (DIG) Faizabad Range of which Ambedkar Nagar district police is a part. The unsuspecting victim agreed and accompanied Maan Singh to Faizabad. The cop took the victim to the hotel and raped her. During her ordeal, the woman somehow managed to send a message to her neighbour in Ambedkar Nagar, who contacted the Faizabad SSP. The girl has now alleged that by the time the SSP raided the hotel and arrested Maan Singh, she had already been raped by Upadhyay as well. Upadhyay is the immediate boss of Maan Singh. The victim, in her letter to the senior officers, has alleged that though she had provided this information to the officer investigating the rape case against Maan Singh, no action has been initiated against the accused inspector. The woman has now alleged that since the matter was related to the police department, she was being threatened not to testify against the arrested SSI before the court and was also under pressure not to raise the issue of the inspector's involvement. Faizabad city SP Subhash Singh Baghel said he was getting the charges verified. "Whosoever involved will not be spared.'' http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/UP-rape-victim-raped-by-cops-probing-case/articleshow/17748777.cms

Another politician opens his mouth

In the backdrop of the Delhi gang-rape case, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President Botsa Satyanarayana on Monday stirred a controversy by questioning the need for women to roam in streets at midnight. "Do we roam in streets at midnight as we got Independence at midnight ? It would have been better if the girl did not travel by a private bus at that time," the PCC President, who is also the state transport minister, told reporters in Hyderabad. However, realising the possible fallout of his remarks, Satyanarayana re-convened a press conference and retracted his words. "As a father myself, I only tried to express my anguish," he clarified. "What happened was very unfortunate and I strongly condemn it," he said. He also expressed his regret for having hurt the feelings of women and said the government should ensure safety and security of all.

It seems Indian men have finally realized that the streets are not safe for their mothers/sisters/wives/daughters etc so now the Govt's feeble words and futile actions will not be enough to soothe public anger. Now the people demand stricter laws along with fair and speedy dispensation of justice and I guess the Govt will have to give in to some of their demands.

Injured constable is dead.
Well, that's what happens when you don't engage a angry crowd, and manage them but try to impose curfew and disperse them by force for 2 days. I went there on Saturday and though i was in the peaceful area many people were so angry that police were beating up girls marching peacefully with a candle. Add to that some political elements joining in, and it was a recipe for disaster. Btw, unconfirmed reports are that the cop died due to heart attack with no visible injury marks. Government and Police trying it's best to sadly hide behind it though. Whatever be the case, this was a big faliure of crowd management. And Home minister Shinde making a jerk out of himself and comparing the protestors to Maoist.

Sheila Dikshit, police lock horns over interference in victim’s statementThe day after the protests subsided political turf wars broke out in the capital over a complaint by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate that the police wanted to influence the statement of the rape victim, which would play a key role in the trial slated to begin early January. Escalating the complaint, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit wrote to the Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde demanding a high-level probe into the alleged misconduct by police officers. Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar hit back saying that the East Delhi SDM Usha Chaturvedi had interfered with police functioning in the past and levelled similar allegations. Ms. Dikshit has been critical of the handling of Delhi’s law and order situation by the police which is controlled by the Central government. Earlier in the day, the Police Commissioner attended the funeral of 46-year-old Constable Subhash Chand Tomar, who after being grievously injured during the clashes between the police and the protesters at India Gate here on Sunday, passed away at Lohia Hospital in the morning. Mr. Kumar announced ex-gratia and monetary compensation to the constable’s family besides a job to one of the family members on compassionate grounds. In a letter to Deputy Commissioner (East) B.M. Mishra who forwarded it to Ms. Dikshit, Ms. Chaturvedi said that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi), Assistant Commissioners of Police of Vasant Vihar and Defence Colony sub-divisions were present at the Safdarjung hospital along with a huge entourage of police personnel when she arrived there to record the victim’s statement. “They showed me a copy of questionnaire…and asked me to record them as facts in the presence of the investigating officer. That brief was far from the actual events of the night of the crime as discovered by me while recording the statement of the victim later. They tried to pressurise me to record the statement as per their convenience and when I refused, they misbehaved and tried to intimidate me,” alleged the SDM, adding that the police also did not allow videography of the statement on the pretext that the victim’s mother had raised an objection. Refuting the charges, Neeraj Kumar said the police on their own had decided to get the victim’s statement recorded by an SDM in the wake of her deteriorating condition. “The police briefed her about the case and also took her to the hospital where the victim’s mother raised objections on videography of the statement. We had not given any questionnaire to the SDM as being alleged,” said Mr. Kumar. The Police Commissioner said had that been the case, the SDM should not have proceeded further and lodged a complaint instead. He further demanded a probe into the leaking of Ms. Dikshit’s letter to the Home Minister. Vital signs improve Meanwhile, doctors at Safdarjung Hospital said that while the patient’s liver function was compromised her vital parameters had improved marginally although she continued to be on ventilator support. “The patient is psychologically stable, conscious and communicative,” general surgeon Sunil Jain said. With traffic restrictions being eased and metro stations opening, the situation in the heart of the Capital improved on Tuesday even though protesters in small groups turned up at Jantar Mantar. 2 of 3 top officers she is blaming are women and she and sheila dixit are also women , so all theories that women in power deal with cases like these with more sympathy is going in drain as it looks like it is now Center,s police officers vs State
