beetle Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Oh c'mon KR....don't get the regional issue into this... Amit paul is from the north east....who is voting for him..?
kumble_rocks Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Oh c'mon KR....don't get the regional issue into this... Amit paul is from the north east....who is voting for him..? I am not getting regional here without a reason. You got to accept the facts. You got to be kidding if you think that Sandeep Achrya was a better singer than Karunya. It's not just me , Sonu Nigam was alluding to this fact along with actress like Tabu and Diya Mirza who happened to be guest. So did Aman Verma and Mini Mathur . As regards to Amit paul , he is heart throb among girls . Obviously he will get lot more votes.
Ram Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 KR is right. There is no way in the planet *a majority* of Northie guys will vote for a Tamil/Telugu/Kannda/Malayalam guy , however good he is and however neutral his accent his.
beetle Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 And why are these north indians voting fo a guy from shillong who speaks with a strange accent????

There is no way in the planet Northie guys will vote for a Tamil/Telugu/Kannda/Malayalam guy ' date=' however good he is and however neutral his accent his.[/quote'] My wife happens to know his family. His beef was that he could garner sufficient votes from North. If you listen to this guy, he was one of the best ever, a fact which was concurred by none other than to Sonu Nigam. IrPIiNEEQ84
kumble_rocks Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 And why are these north indians voting fo a guy from shillong who speaks with a strange accent???? Who was better singer between Karunya and Sandeep Acharya . Please answer that !
Ram Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 And why are these north indians voting fo a guy from shillong who speaks with a strange accent???? Rads, There is a difference between the way Northie see N-E people and Southies. If given a choice , the Northies would vote for the former, not the latter.
veer Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 even Javed Akhtar who is one of the judges said there are all kinds of biases in voting.. but question is What you gonna do about it? We are like that only..
beetle Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 How come a guy from assam had won the last sarega ma ......? I do admit karunya was good ...but he wasn't as good as he thought he was... Infact the last 2 indian idols saw some really poor singers.....I didn't vote for any... this idol has been ok... and some of the singers are really good..... this is a voting based programme...and people vote for their favourites ...which inturn can be based on many things. As for popularity amongst females...in that case Emon should win hands down.Infact if that was the case...chang would have never left!
Ram Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 even Javed Akhtar who is one of the judges said there are all kinds of biases in voting.. but question is What you gonna do about it? We are like that only.. Cant do anything about it , really. The uncomfortable truth/reality is , most Hindi speaking natives/non-natives will feel VERY odd about a person from South India coming and winning a All-India talent competition that invloves singing Hindi songs. And i dont refer to educated ,fair-minded people here, but a vast majority of the commoners.

If given a choice , the Northies would vote for the former, not the latter. Do you know what is the major beef amongst people from the north east...that most indians don't consider them as equal indians.... This is a personality based programme and whether you it or not .....karunya was not as popular because of his personality ....not because he was from a particular region .If the regional issue was so important in deciding ...then how come he reached the finals....how come he beat so many north indian contestants.....?

He was always at the bottom five. Did you even watch the Indian Idol last year. It's only after he spoke out along with Sonu Nigam , Tabu , Diya Mirza, Suneil Shetty , Mini Mathur etc , people in the North started voting for him. That was a good gesture by them. Plus the fact that he journeyed North India to appeal to the people and this swayed some fair minded people.

Talent/Personality of the contestant can carry him only until so far. And i am not highlighting an issue that is something radicallly bad here. It is only understandable that people have regional biases. Its a very natural phenomenon. How come he beat so many North-Indians ? Simple , he sang better than them all . How come he didnt win the competition ? I leave the answer to the readers' imagination.
beetle Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 What did you get from that statement mr. kR.... You seem to be suffering from some kind of victim complex.... I didn't like Karunya's voice...I found it sqeaky ....may be lots of others didn't find it good enough to be best. Why do you only write about karunya...? Why not about poor Puja or Deepali .....who were excellent singers but got voted out.Do you think they also got voted out because of the regional thingyy.... What about some ofthe other male singers who were good too but gir eliminated? Tomorrow if a brilliant singer like Emon is voted out...will it be because he comes from bengal... Infact I think your arguements smell of regional chauvinism.....

She is just arguing for the sake of it now. Karunya was the first singer to get signed by Bollywood wherein he sang in Lago Raho Munnabhai . If I am not mistaken , Sandeep Acharya still hasn't figured in bollywood so far.

But for her to think that it is totally non-existant is just wishful thinking.

So he can beat north indians by singing well....and that argument holds good till he reaches the final...but the same argument doesn't hold good when he leses...you can't have it both ways... What about Amit sana...a much better singer eliminated in favour of Abhijeet sawant...was that also regionalism? Infact how many north indians did you see in the last 5 in this indian idol..... Most of them have been from the east and north east. If the people voted out people from their own states ...how can you accuse them of regionalism. It is very sad!

Looks like you didn't watch the Indian Idol last year , this was a burning issue last year and even the judges acknowledged regional bias . Anyways , I am not going to waste my time convincing you or anybody else because it is point less.

My only question about this would be ..... If you guys remember the Show called 'Fame Gurukul' and remember the guy 'Qazi Taukeer' from srinagar (I can bet gals cant forget this guy's name) , that guy won even though judges would put him in the 'bottom three' every time* and he was supposedly the worst singer in the whole competition and every time public would save him with even bigger margin (what can I say, even My dad send him so many votes). this guy made a record of one person getting the maximum TV voting. just tell me what northie-southie logic you would apply coz 1) he was a muslim so not a part of religious majority. 2) he was supposedly the worst singer compared to many other maharathis in that competition 3) he was from srinagar so not exactly your typical northie.
