Ultimate_Game Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Even though most of the Aussies wanted to see Hussey continue playing odis, Aussie selectors made the hard call and have decided to not continue with Hussey in the shorter formats. Take a bow Aussie selectors and these are the sort of hard nosed decisions that have kept Aussies at the top of world cricket. For sure Aussies may lose a few more games but they will be in a much better shape come 2015 WC :hatsoff: If it had been India we would have the player playing the odis as "it's for the player to decide when it's time for him to go." It's no co-incidence Aussies have been the top dogs and we have been pretty much average historically coz Aussies showed no emotions when dropping the likes of Healy, Mark Waugh, Steve Waugh from odis (just before 2003 WC) etc. whereas we have all seen how our so called "transition" was handled by BCCI & selectors alike  Here's the excerpt from the article... It was no surprise to hear the chant, given Hussey's last day as a Test cricketer had arrived. But the timing said much for the affection with which Hussey is held, and the sadness around Australia at his retirement. However logical the selectors' reasons, there was much public discontent at the news that this would be Hussey's final international appearance, only adding to the pathos of his departure at the start of a year in which India and England await. The call for Hussey went beyond a cry for one more innings - Australian cricket simply does not want him to go. "I would've liked to play but the selectors spoke to me and said they're starting to look towards the 2015 World Cup and that's fine," Hussey said, accepting the final curtain with grace. "I understand where they're trying to go with it. It would've been nice to play but I totally understand where the selectors are going, no worries Link... http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia-v-sri-lanka-2012/content/current/story/599916.html
Ultimate_Game Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 We can only dream of ours being the same. I know man. I can only dream of the day when our selectors/administrators are as ruthless as their Aussie counterparts We have a spineless, gutless bunch who shy from taking tough calls and bow down easily to public pressure.
jairamesh Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 But what if selectors did speak to likes of Sehwag and Zaheer to be axed from future ODIs permanently but the players didn't respond in kind? From the article Hussey announced his Test retirement and also accepted selectors decision to be axed from ODIs since he won't be around WC 2015. Not all players are like Hussey, remember the commotion Michael Katich made after his axing from Australia team? With the added weight of IPL PR our selections are constrained.
ganeshran Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 totally agree. The selectors are a spineless bunch. How else can Dhoni continue to be in the side and lead it despite losing all major test series in the last 2 years? And now losing ODI series at home as well, something that is supposed to be our strong suite. I dont see how Dhoni can lead India in the 2015 World cup after such a pisspoor series at home and winning nothing of note since the WC. If we are going to go with a younger captain, might as well make the transition now rather than throwing a youngster at the deep end just before the world cup. Sure, some matches will be lost due to the captain's inexperience but we will be in much better shape for the world cup

Therein lies the problem. What exactly is the selectors panel for ? Selecting the XI based on current & future needs or negotiate with uncles on when they would like to retire ?
Spiderguy252 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I know man. I can only dream of the day when our selectors/administrators are as ruthless as their Aussie counterparts We have a spineless' date=' gutless bunch who shy from taking tough calls and bow down easily to public pressure.[/quote'] I have two different thoughts about whether our selectors themselves are arm-twisted by extraneous factors. Listen to that Mohinder Amarnath interview on Dhoni recently, after the England tests.
ganeshran Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Kohli? Kohli or Raina for the ODI side. They are the only two players who have cemented their place in the side and have age on their side.
King Tendulkar Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Totally agree with op. But the aussie board and selctors want aussies to win. Our board and co have other agendas and they dont include indian team being successful
Cevno Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Have you seen the team they have actually selected. Not selected Mussey but then gone ahead and selected Dussey. Their fans are not one bit happy with the selection. Grass always looks greener on the other side. Plus they've got a strange choice in Dean Jones as batting coach.

It doesn't matter whether Hussey selected the selector's decision or not, just like Katich didn't. But the fact remains Aussie selectors made the tough and non-sentimental calls and these decisions have paid dividends in team results. Aussies lost so many legends over the last few years and still they are tough to beat.

So yes, they also pick and chose which players to give a longer rope Similarly our selectors gave a longer rope to Sachin but not Sehwag
Cevno Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Katich bit the bullet so that Hussey and Punter could remain till next ashes, but they retired before. lol. He was the easy 35 year old to drop. People giving Aussie selectors too much credit here.
Chalks Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 How do you explain the selelction of Haddin then? Surely he won't be around for 2015 WC?
CSK Fan Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Katich bit the bullet so that Hussey and Punter could remain till next ashes, but they retired before. lol. He was the easy 35 year old to drop. People giving Aussie selectors too much credit here. Everything Aussie looks rosy to some blokes
CSK Fan Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 BTW, didnt Sachin give the WC 2015 as a reason for his retirement from ODIs? Didnt see many people give him credit for the decision then but suddenly just because Aussie selectors dropped a player citing the same reasons, they are the new Messiah?
Ultimate_Game Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 Err, they didnt take the same call with Ponting, in fact they let Ponting chose and gave him a much longer rope than we gave Sachin. So yes, they also pick and chose which players to give a longer rope Similarly our selectors gave a longer rope to Sachin but not Sehwag Ponting was part of 3 WC winning teams while captianing two back-to-back unbeaten wins. He deserved whatever leeway he got and as my list in OP shows even legends like Healy, Waugh bros etc. were hardly given lot of rope. As for Sehwag if selectors still don't drop him now after doing jack shyte for such a long time now (along with Gambhir) then when? Katich bit the bullet so that Hussey and Punter could remain till next ashes, but they retired before. lol. He was the easy 35 year old to drop. People giving Aussie selectors too much credit here. Fact is that Aussies managed their transition much better than what we did with not too many sentimental selections and ensuring team comes before individual(s). Aussies have shown time and again that they will make the tough calls for betterment of the team.
suraj Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Misbah and Yk need to retire ASAP from odi. No please- India needs them
