Please add to the below list & also reorder it with the most important thing at the top - man management skills = Captain must be flexible to adapt & understand what clicks with each of his players & exploit those strengths - needs to have good knowledge of Cricket & rules for each format - who can think & Plan his strategy ahead of the game. - Ability to pick a balanced XI with each person excelling at his position whether batting, bowling or fielding. - past experience of captaincy - best player in the team - questionable?? - Vision to build a team for the future. - Captain who knows what he wants - Captain who has an eye for talent in domestic cricket

Fletcher has ruined his captaincy. We won the World Cup and reached #1 in tests under Dhoni. Blame Fletcher, not Dhoni :icflove:

Ganguly had a clear head and a clear vision in his mind, he had an eye for talent, he picked up performers from domestic cricket and gave them confidence to suceed at intl. level. Lets compare players who flourished under ganguly's captaincy and were brought in to the team under the recommendation of ganguly compared to what dhoni has done so far. Under Ganguly 1) Yuvraj Singh 2) Zaheer Khan 3) Harbhajan Singh 4) S Sreesanth 5) Irfan Pathan 6) Gautam Gambhir 7) Sehwag as a opener in Test (the most important of all, which changed our approach towards test matches) 8)Ashish Nehra 9) Last but not the least M.S. Dhoni himself was picked by dada immediately after a good domestic season over dinesh kartik who was rated as a phenomenol talent with the bat. Under Dhoni 1) Failed Yousuf Pathan 2) Failed Rohit Sharma 3) Failed Murali Vijay 4) Failed R. Jadeja (arguable, but he is no gary sobers) 5) Failing R. Ashwin. Dhoni ate the cake with the cherry on top, a team that was built by ganguly (2011 worldcup winning team), Dhoni certainly lacks the vision and mostly worried about his image and enhancing dhoni 'The Brand'.

Rahul Dravid handled fast bowlers better than most Indian captains I have seen.

As the article says "its not a static list of qualities, but the right personality to fit the circumstances of the moment."

Rahul Dravid handled fast bowlers better than most Indian captains I have seen. Ganguly & Kumble used to talk/shout to the bowlers after each & every ball, while Dravid & Dhoni have let them be themselves.

The worst I felt was Tendulkar who would be in constant chat with the bowler. Nasser Hussain did it as well but it the results were not as bad.

The only players that have blossomed under Dhoni are Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina :((
