14 man Irani trophy squad. Hopefully it is played on a helpful track or some ordinary batsman are gonna come back / make it into the test team or stay there in poor form. Harbhajan just doesn't go away either. And how the hell is Menaria ahead of Robin Bist, btw ? As a test prospect ?

Dhawan's leg goes way towards the leg side. His defensive technique is dodgy too. Mukund has weaknesses but he has much better basics. His bat comes down straight and his feet move forward much better while Dhawan shuffles across. See both's FC record too and performances on A tours. Mukund was top performer in NZ recently too.
Mukund just hangs on the backfoot still struggles ot play the short ball and did not perform well in ranji trophy.

Not like Dhawan and Vijay were brilliant either. And how can he just hang on to the backfoot and struggle against the short ball ? He is a very good backfoot player, imo. And he top scored on the A tour to NZ in foreign conditions too.

Zaheer Khan's involvement in the initial stages of the upcoming Test series against Australia is in doubt after he was recommended another three weeks rest to regain match fitness. The first Test is scheduled to start on February 22 in Chennai. Zaheer was yet to recover from the calf injury sustained earlier this month during the Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat and was left out of Mumbai's 15-member squad for the Irani Cup. He took a five-wicket haul in Mumbai's thrilling win against Madhya Pradesh, but didn't bowl in the second innings of the next match against Gujarat - a game in which he led the Mumbai side. He was not part of the team during the knockout stages as Mumbai emerged winners for the 40th time. Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma, who were the other absentees during the later stages of Ranji Trophy due to international cricket, were included and will bolster a batting line-up that includes Sachin Tendulkar, Wasim Jaffer and Abhishek Nayar. Rohit scored 712 runs in six Ranji matches this year, with two centuries and a double-century, while Rahane played in three matches and scored one century. Nikhil Patil jnr and Sushant Marathe were left out to make way for the two batsmen. Ajit Agarkar will lead Mumbai against the Virender Sehwag-led Rest of India for the Irani Cup at the Wankhede stadium from February 6. Mumbai squad: Ajit Agarkar (capt), Sachin Tendulkar, Wasim Jaffer, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni, Kaustubh Pawar, Abhishek Nayar, Hiken Shah, Aditya Tare (wk), Ankeet Chavan, Javed Khan, Shardul Thakur, Vishal Dabholkar.

What's with you obsession on Mukund? I don't think anyone would want Dhawan in the Test side but he is clearly a far, far better option than Mukund. Mukund has been given shots in Test cricket and failed miserably. He needs to do much better than his current season to get a 2nd shot.

:giggle: Mukund has been given shots in West Indies where he did decently and then in England where everyone excet Dravid was struggling miserably against a red hot attack. He did well on India A tour too. What the hell has Dhawan done ? Or Vijay ?

Is the first test going to be played in Chennai ? I looked in Cricinfo and it says the same in their schedule. Here in Australia tour of India thread, it says first test at Delhi from Feb 22, fourth test at Chennai. :hmmm:

Mukund has been given shots and he has "no way" done decently. Raina was better than him in the Windies. It's a poor excuse to hide his performance because the whole team failed. Which A tour are you talking about ? The recent NZ series? He did fine there, he hasn't done anything exceptional like Pujara did in WI tour to be picked in the national side. Just because Vijay or Dhawan hasn't performed doesn't mean Mukund needs to included in the squad and wonder what sort of domestic circuit you follow, Dhawan has been doing much better than Mukund in the List A. Mukund was poor during this season and has to perform much better than he has been currently.

He should exclude himself from discussions regarding his son, but then previous selector set a bad precedent anyway. Btw, seeing the squads it seems Dhawan and Vijay are ahead of Mukund as opening option. Dhawan has a dodgy technique for tests while Vijay has a habit of edging everything that moves outside his off stump. Mukund is a much better test prospect, imo. Vijay should be in T20 contention, while Dhawan should be in ODI contention but our selectors like Flamboyance more than good technical aspects. SMH.
Remember IPL is round the corner....& BCCI main objectiive is to get the main IPL team players in shape rather then sit & think about fixing Indian cricket team problems.

The Matches vs Aussies should have been given priority because the players selected for those could have played test class opposition and those teams should have had players who need the exposure and/or are potential test call ups in the future. Also India A should be second string test side in effect. Irani Trophy match is relatively unimportant. Ideal first XIs with that in mind: India A: Mukund, Jiwanjot, Rahane, Rohit, Tiwary, R Jadeja, Saha, Ishwar Pandey, Pankaj Singh, Shami Ahmed, Nadeem BP XI: Vijay, Akshat Reddy, Mandeep, Rayudu, Parthiv, Juneja, J Saxena, Dhawal Kulkarni , Sandeep Sharma, Ladda, S Kaul, ROI: Uthappa, Dhawan, Unmukt, Sehwag, Bawne, C Gautam, Parvez Rassol, Rakesh Dhurv, P Awana, Ankit Rajpoot, Mohit Sharma
Far better teams than the ones actually selected. :two_thumbs_up:
