It is a good idea to play him here and may be try to get some of confidence back. He is a must in the ODI team if only he can improve his bowling just marginally. One problem is this is a wrong format and possibly the wrong set of pitches for a bowler.

Pathan was never much of a test bowler, so to expect him to become a world beater there is unrealistic. On the other hand, he showed that in form he can be among the best allrounders in ODIs. That's where he should try to get back in and at the age of 22 there is a lot going for him.

He is the closest India have ever gotten to producing a proper all-rounder since Kapil Dev. Worth persisting with. Although as others have stated in this thread, Twenty20 is the wrong stage for him to be launching his come-back on.

20-20 is just the wrong format absolutely for Pathan - his bowling is likely to be shredded apart. He should have waited and tried for comeback in 50-50.

Good selection. Can swing the ball and if conditions help could be very handy, but more importantly can be a serious impact player with the bat given his big hitting. And his fielding won't hurt either. Hopefully he'll get some form back and use this tourney to fight for an ODI place again. The balance of the ODI side would be far better with an on-form Pathan in the XI.

Back and about time to. Yes his bowling has been below par but this does not matter as much in 20/20 when even the best are going to be hit around the park. People forget that he can make an excellent contribution with the bat.

Irfan is india's best all rounder for the moment. He should be groomed like flintoff. I dont know if ppl remember, but freddie was initially compared to botham and he didnt prove his potential. He was dropped and came back. I am sure pathan will also make a good come back.
