You're right being on bench can destroy and hence, I'm asking him to be taken a look into. But after all, the player may have refused to? Remember VVS Laxman - who knows! No one's dying wondering, it's not gully cricket where you say "Hey, bat at No.1". It is hard Test match cricket and there are multiple factors into consideration. This suggestion may already have been tabled by the team management and due to some factors to which we aren't privy of may have been rejected. Your team POV is myopic and fraught with problems. I am not ready to sacrifice Rahane (considering his worth) to any short term plans.

Well I dont know whether its been considered or not,but its hard to believe that player prefers being benched than opening.VVS case is different as he had already failed there,so he decided to take his career in his own hands.Rahane's Test career hasnt even started,so we don't know how it'll go.The fact that Rahane has opened in the past makes it even harder to believe that he'd refuse it. Its not sacrificing.as I said,if it doesnt work out,we can always go back,you keep ignoring that.If it works,we'll have a solid player who has performed consistently in FC as our opener instead of hacks we have now.If it doesnt,we can always go back to the hacks n play Rahane in MO when his chance comes

I do find it funny how he's commenting on his team mates like this. It's not as if someone is putting a gun his head. Shame, I had a lot more respect for Dravid. He could have remained silent but he's gone to Cricinfo questioning (pretty much) Sehwag's place in the team. Everyone pretty much knew Sehwag had only this series left. Ganguly and Laxman didn't call for anyone's axing - they know that Sandip Patil will take that call. Shame, you think you understand some people but they find a way to let you down.

Greg Chappell himself was hell bent on blooding new players, that's what made him unpopular in the first place. Why should Dravid have "opened his mouth" if they were on the same page, and thought that it was for the betterment of Indian cricket? It's just that it didn't turn out to be effective in the end, but you can't doubt that his heart wasn't in the right place.
