Fundamentally Wrong T20 System

Ricky Ponting has recently announced that he will play in the Caribbean Premier League meaning he now plays for FOUR T20 teams. That's all well and fine on the domestic scenes but in terms of the champion's league it really is incredible to me that players are part of maybe 4 qualified clubs and can choose where they want to play. That to me speaks volumes about the lack of professionalism in T20 cricket. Furthermore, the fact that these leagues clash with international games (and will continue to do so as each league has many same players) is crazy. This has to change because it's a very shambolic set up. Thoughts?

honestly its not such a big deal.. champions league is nothing but another way to make money, dont take it seriously. its not professional its waste of time just way for cricketers to make money and people like it.. i would like all leagues to take fecking place at same time and be done with it in 2 months but its not possible, actually this might have solved this problem too haha

The point was that my post (point) is as pointless as the thread.
its pointless how ? its valid question and instead of making fun of ipl and making joke about bcci he asked a good question which will become important in future if club cricket gets big..

not this one.. no one ever questioned players playing for so many teams..where are the priorities ? are they even serious about team? dont u feel while watching ipl there is no real support for team or attachment ? imo this is one of the biggest reason players are professionals yes but u dont play for team jsut cos of money!

Are you kidding me? You haven't seen a discussion about priorities and bunch of leagues mushrooming all over? Not even when Gayle and Symonds were plying their trade all over or when Gambhir & Sehwag played through injuries in IPL and dropped out of India commitments? Of course players give diddly squat about the teams and go to the highest bidder. Is it so much of a surprise? Guess what? Even discussion about players playing through injuries has been covered along with a window for IPL/T20 leagues. And the same discussions will be rehashed come IPL.

look there is difference between playing for higher bid but still for 1 team then playing for 3-4 different teams who will all compete in same tournament in the end .. and again playing through injury different discussion, talking about leagues mushrooming in every country again different discussion.. this thread is about players playing for more then 2-3 teams! im not much of a foot ball lover but does this happen there ? or any other sport?

That was already done earlier when Aussie, SA and WI players were forced to play for IPL teams and IPL franchises had to reimburse the players' local team. In fact Pollard or one of the WI players made a big deal about being forced to play for IPL team when he wanted to play for his native club. At the end of the day money talks and IPL & BCCI is the biggest money spinner. And the players are more than happy to be mercenaries to make max amount of money in as short time as possible.

the whole incident was about for which team to play, even then no one questioned playing for more then 1 team. money talks then let them just play for ipl teams and they should not take part in other t20 leagues. they cannot even make excuse that its home team as they mainly play for champions league which is related to ipl.. its messed up systeam we actually need to play all leagues at same time :cantstop:

As the popularity of T20 rows, as long as people throng to T20 matches .... this will continue. Nothing wrong with it, it is just the choice of viewers. Yes, there needs to be a stabilization and many T20 leagues are still in early phases. It will take time for all these to find their places.

Make a window for IPL and let everyone participate in it. This way players are paid well and they can concentrate on their national teams in rest of the year. Rest of the leagues are not good enough and can take a hike. :finger:

Isn't that unfair though? Let only one market enjoy the spectacle. And how are the rest not good enough? Who win the Champion's league?

OP, its a very good point you raised here and I think this trend of a player playing for multiple leagues is here to stay since in Cricket, we donot have a lot of Countries playing at the highest level and hence the top grade talent is very few and poor. In such a scenario, every league that gets off wants to have these star players in their league to gain some profits and to create excitement. Cricket needs to expand globally before we can have a large pool of players for Clubs all around the world to have different players.

unless india decides to have around 10 international sides cricket wont have enough international talent to supply multiple leagues around the world. till then there would be this one player playing multiple teams its pretty silly, and takes away fan loyalty.
