We in India do not separate the formats. Especially after being failing against England in ODIs, he was slotted in MO.

Could not find another article. Even on TV, a former selector who had a talk with Patil said he will be considered as MO batsmen in ODIs as well.

None of the two had opened anywhere before they got success while opening. Rahane has already been a failure at opening for 25 matches. I will be surprised if he is successful as an opener in ODIs again. Even Ganguly was a middle order batsman who succeeded opening.

Failure when he got one game per series after no practice ? Let's keep atleast same standard for all players

Let's keep atleast same standard for all players he played most of the matches in England ODI series and was only dropped once he was failed. We discard bowlers after they fail in a match, here he got a full series that too at home, failed and is still persisted with which helped him gain confidence at this level. Bowlers are always going to have tougher times than batsmen in game favoring batsmen from all corners.
