Vanarp22 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Steyn, Morkel, Philander are fantastic bowlers. No doubt about that, However, Peterson who concedes about 4 runs an over like Lyon and Kleinveldt who can't take wickets in Tests are failures. So SA bowling is only about 50 times better than Indian bowling. And you never know about India...lose to England or whitewash Australia:giggle:

Earlier you could just see off Steyn and Morkel (who's good but not that good) and then score runs off the third seamer/spinner.

I think you misunderstood me...I was talking about Peterson and Kleinveldt. SA have no good spinner.

Vanarp22 Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 I never said Peterson was legendary...I'm just saying that he is somewhat overhyped and has a bad Test economy rate. But I do like his handy batting.
deathmonger Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 They dont need spinners on their pitches. True. Although I believe their strength as no 1 is a bit overrated. They simply have no bowling attack to win a series in the SC. Granted they are too good to be whitewashed but I think they'll have it tough in the SC. Their spinner sucks and Philander didn't really look threatening on the flat pitches of Oz and the SC pitches are even less pace-friendly. Also Morkel doesn't have that good an SC record. (He's someone like Siddle).

Junyfan Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Not to forget they play seam and swing/bounce with utter disdain and ease, but will always be vulnerable against spin.slip fielding make difference in South Africa and Australia/Eng
namasteji1 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Morkel is overrated tbh, doesn't have any swing, a good player of short player can smash him to all parts.
FischerTal Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Philander will be pedestrian in subcontinent tbh. he gets a lot of purchase off the wicket. morkel has the bounce factor but otherwise even in the recent pak and nz series, he didnt take too many wickets. its steyn that really stands out. pak batsmen made abbott look like malcolm marshall too, otherwise he can be negotiated by batsmen with proper technique off the backfoot.

rkt.india Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Morkel is overrated tbh' date=' doesn't have any swing, a good player of short player can smash him to all parts.[/quote'] That's is why he is one of the best ODI bowler at the moment. He does not bowl short. He gets bounce from length which batsmen find hard to score.

I keep hearing about these guys on PP but they never show in your squads.

Ex:pak, Ind (most are gone though now) and SL
GoldenSun Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Peterson and Kleinveldt are overrated. Steyn, Morkel, and Philander are not.
