these rules were brought in 2009 i believe to counter the exodus of South africans as kolpaks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolpak_ruling I also believe that his wife does hold a dual south african and EU (european union passport). somebody like Nannes can play for any side without a visa in county cricket because he holds a dutch passport. Same for Somebody like Henriques because he holds a portuguese passport.
Forget county cricket, Nannes can either play for Australia or for Netherlands which is quite amazing!

to be fair even i can play for the england or scotland or Irish (via northern ireland) cricket team. thats the thing about the EU, anybody can play for anybody but anyways back to the point. Rahane has one test under his belt and he should try his luck in the counties if he is not picked for the champions trophy side or even after. If the bcci do not provide him an NOC then you can argue. But lets not blame the BCCI for things which are blatant lies.

No, you need citizenship of the country plus a 4(?) year qualification period to represent a country.

Only as long as Holland does not become a full member of the ICC.
Interesting - never knew that but I thought it was quite cool that Nannes had a choice to represent a country at the World T20.
