Texy Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 The two suspects in an alleged terror plot in Canada, Chiheb Esseghaier and Raed Jaser, are accused of conspiring to murder people on a VIA train, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said. The RCMP said that while the suspects had the capacity to carry out an attack, the public was never in imminent danger. Two men arrested Monday were allegedly part of an al Qaeda-supported plot to attack a passenger train, officials with the Royal Canadian Mountain Police said. Suspects were arrested after a year long investigation and surveillance by the Royal Mounted Canadian Police along with other regional authorities. SOURCE Hats off to the Canadian authorities. This would have been a major disaster as thousands of people travel that line every day.

Ie, Moroccans/Malinese/Chadians etc. 'Chiheb' is Maghrebi way of saying Suhaib/Shoaib IIRC. There be lots of those in Canada (Francophone Arab-Africans).

Texy Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 Updates -Two charged with conspiracy to carry out a terror plot against a VIA train, investigation started in August 2012 -This is after a year long investigation led by the RCMP, as well as local/provincial police -A bomb was supposed to go off on the VIA train to derail it, near Niagara Falls on the Canadian side -On April 22, after an investigation called Project Smooth, two individuals charged -Al-Qaeda supported attack against train (confirmed) -Would have resulting in innocent people being killed or serious injured -The accused have been formally charged with terrorism -Search warrants were executed in Montreal and Toronto -Charges include conspiring to interfere with transportation, and murdering persons for the benefit of a terror group -Toronto Police, York Police, Peel Region Police, Ontario Provincial Police, Durham Police, Canadian Border Services, Canadian Intelligence agencies all participated in the investigation -No updates on weapons found on the suspect's premises, searches being executed right now -Plot in the planning stage, but threat not imminent -Two individuals arrested not Canadian citizens, specifications not given since investigation is active -No evidence (so far) to indicate that these attacks were state-sponsored -Elements of Iranian Al-Qaeda -Support from Al-Qaeda in the form of support and guidance -Specific route targeted, as opposed to a specific train. Jersey #10 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I listened to the entire 30 minute press conference and no where do they say that the train involved any part of a US city. That doesn't mean it didn't but just not revealed yet. Now if you go to any of the American major news websites, they try to make the story relevant by saying that the plot included US bound train. Shows how obscure these news channels are.

And I was thinking this is perfect for conspiracy theorist to say US (republicans) planned this to block/delay immigration bill...

And I was thinking this is perfect for conspiracy theorist to say US (republicans) planned this to block/delay immigration bill... The funniest moment in the sad reporting of the last week was a comment from a Fox news host after describing the ammo the 2 bombers were carrying after boston bombing " They had so many guns, this is scary, wonder how they got them" and I was like DUDE dont you shout 24/7 "no checks and are against ANY gun control".
