Dhoni is Jordan of 21st century

Dhoni was not even Indias best player in either the t20 cup or world cup. Dhoni is good but not that great. Yuvraj' date=' gambhir were both more valuable than dhoni in the t20 and ODI world cup wins. suresh raina tendulkar zaheer khan were more valuable than Dhoni in the ODI world cup. And I think even rohit sharma played better than dhoni in the t20 world cup win. Dhoni needs to step it up in big tournaments if he wants to go down as a great player and not rely so much on his teamates. I hope he does it in the champions trophy.[/quote'] 91*.

one innings. Sure' date=' it was the Final but[b'] still you have to see that apart from that he made agrand total of 150 runs in 8 matches.
I agree to your point but this is not the way to prove it - you are kind of creating an illusion here. You need to check the batting order and the time when he came to bat. You can't use runs to compare MS Dhoni with the top order - Gambhir, Kohli, Tendulkar and Yuvraj.

There's only 3 matches , the knock-outs , that mattered in the world cup considering the format. He failed horribly in the QF , Did decently in the Semi and won us the final with a superlative knock. Not to forget his captaincy. So its natural he receives most of the accolades . Just like Gilly in 2007 world cup.

News Flash : a team has to actually reach the knockout stage before Kaptaan Kool can perform there. He made less than 120 in total in the group stages. BTW he made 25 in 42 balls against Pak in semis and 4 Indian batsmen outscored him - thats not exactly a decent performance. Also, Gambhir made 97 in the Final so it wasn't just Dhoni who "won us the Final".

91*.
Does that one innings mean he had a better tournament than raina yuvi gambhir tendulkar or khan? It was gambhirs innings that set up the 91 and even if he got out cheaply yuvi or raina would probably have stepped it up just like in the previous matches where dhoni flopped. Plus Indian bowlers held sri lanka to a gettable score too and did their part throughout the knockout stages. Dhoni is not bad but not great by any means.

Not true. India was doing poorly in the group stage and even the irish and the dutch were giving india a hard time. india could have easily been knocked out in the group stage. but even if you only count the 3 knockout matches gambhir tendulkar raina and yuvi outplayed dhoni.

1.Common sense: We just need to beat 3 out of Ireland Netherlands Bangladesh and an awful WI to reach QF.Just formality that too at home regardless of how u want beat around the bush. 2.He came in after we lost 2 wkts in 2 balls and in trouble at 140 for 4 and under huge pressure. So yes it was a very sensible innings which stabilized the match (in btw Sachin got out too). Its the situation that counts not just the runs.

Had Dhoni not made the 91*, then gambhir's knock would've gone to waste, because Yuvraj would get out after striking some blows, and Raina was inexperienced at that time.

What hard time.We thrashed Bangladesh.Same with Windies. Ireland and Netherland gave us hard time in the sense that we couldnt thrash them easily like Ban match. But we were never in trouble in those matches. As for who outperformed who in knock-outs its just a matter of opinion.

Dhoni played brilliantly in the finals , but other than that he was pretty much a no show. Got out at a crucial time in the Quarters, mediocre knock in the semis.

Both were in good form and would have finished the job.

Man the future read from the scriptures here is amazing - please also tell me the winner of the next WC based on form and past crucial knocks.

Yuvraj is not like Dhoni. He is a dangerous finisher but he doesn't stay till the end. That was Raina's first world cup. You couldn't have depended on him. After Gambhir got out. It was Dhoni's job to reduce the run rate considerably, so that the other batsmen could easily score without pressure. In the Dhoni-Yuvraj Partnership, Dhoni did the majority. Had Yuvraj come ahead of Dhoni when Kohli got out, then there was no guarantee that Yuvraj could stay at the crease long enough when Gambhir got out. Whereas Dhoni, who is one of the greatest finishers of all time has done so on numerous occasions. Yuvraj is handy when there is a platform set. But not when He needs to build a platform.

Had yuvi and kohli not performed vs west indies (they were the only players that scored in that blowout.) and if england won that tie India would have been tied with Bangladesh 3-3. Plus if yuvi didn't take 5 wickets and score the crucial 50 runs vs ireland india could have easily been 2-4 behind Bangladesh. India qualified comfortably but it wasn't by any means a guarenteed thing. Your just minimizing yuvraj kohli and zaheers contribution to make dhoni look better.

here's some more future read from the scriptures for you: "Had Dhoni not made the 91*, then gambhir's knock would've gone to waste, because Yuvraj would get out after striking some blows, and Raina was inexperienced at that time." I was trying to show him that both were in good form and could have done the job had Kaptaan Kool repeated his groups stage performance.

The problem is that - you are arguing for him being a prophet and then doing that yourself. Phir to dono taraf raaita pehel gaya. The point is simple about Dhoni playing a gun knock in the final and pretty much not performing throughout the tournament (like you mentioned earlier) I agree with you. Beyond that, there is no way to say IF THEN ELSE.
