StatsRock Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 This game: http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/65877.html Amazing batting by Wasim Akram to lose the match after Pakistan was in the driver's seat :hysterical::hysterical: 4 off 19 balls, hardly made any attempt to score and blocked non-stop.
The Outsider Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 There were strong rumors about 'fixing' by the Bombay lobby in the '87 WC semi final to get rid of Kapil as captain - Vengsarkar pulled up a mysterious stomach ailment which ruled him out, Gavaskar was bowled in the first over, and Shastri pottered around towards the end instead of going for the big shots.

hhhhdmt Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Pakistan would lose to teams like Australia & South Africa quite easily in the 90s because they were far better teams. As fo Waqar's stats before 1999, he still qualifies as a minnow basher who had mediocre stats agianst the better batting lineups. No he does not. He was averaging under 24 vs SA prior to 1999. Its only the last couple of matches he played vs them in late 02/03 (when he was a shadow of his former self) that his average went up vs them. He did not do well vs Australia, that is true. And he simply never played India at his peak. He dominated WI when they were the best test team in the world, averaging under 20 vs them while they were the no 1 test team. He was by no means a minnow basher, that is nothing short of a comical post. Anyway, regarding Akram, there were so many allegations vs him by his team mates, some of them were most likely true. Akram was/is a shady character and while i am uncomfortable in convicting someone without enough evidence, there are too many eye witnesses against Akram.
zumi Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 there were (are) rumours gavaskar's father was also a bookie.
