Was good to see him preventing his players from getting over excited in the end yesterday. But still he doesn't even deserve his place in the team so vice captaincy is out of question.

i dont think anybody claims it was a master stroke. But the point is Rohit has gone about his job as a captain in a calm and composed manner. Mumbai probably had the best attack (or second best if you say SRH are the best) in the tournament. He marshaled his considerable resources well . Did not make any big errors in his tactics through the tournament. I think once you captain big strong teams thats what captaincy should be about. Not making any fundamental errors. The three times we won v CSK this tournament he defended scores of 148, 140, 148. On pitches with something in them, ie not total flatbeds. In two of them Malinga bowled towards the end.
Ponting was captain the first time around.

i know but i was talking about Malinga bowling up front. Malinga bowled towards the end and only 1 in the first 6 in that match if my memory serves me right I am sure the mumbai think tank had an input when where malinga should bowl as they probably identified Hussey as being the key to the csk chase.

As far as his places, goes, as i have said before Rohit has a very good T20 record at IPL and International level. Considering the IPL is a T20 tournament maybe a role in the T20 captaincy calls especially since the next two WC's are in Bd and India.

All these temporary captains always look good lol. I remember guys hyping the same about Viru's captaincy, Gauti's captaincy.. Besides it is freaking IPL. Not international match. Agarkar led Mumbai to Ranji win.. can we give captaincy to him for being "calm and collected" lol.. Let us hope it doesn't come to a situation where we will need Rohit as captain. No captain can change our T20 fortunes. We suck. period compared to other countries in the world. In one dayers.. this joker has to find a place in the squad first let alone captain.

well look at the T20s. Has Dhoni got a good T20 record? No. He does not have an international T20 50 to his name. Have we reached the semis in the last couple of tournaments? No. Its time to change things up IMO. Dhoni cant be captain forever. I also refuse to believe we suck in the T20s. Not in our conditions. India very much has the capability of reaching the semis and from there who knows. We have good spinners who can exploit the conditions in BD and India where the T20 WCs are going to be held. Gambhir is somebody who has captained the Delhi Ranji team, Daredevils and now KKR. So there is experience with captaincy there prior to the IPL. However he is now 30 plus. Not exactly a young option. If Dhoni gets injured the options we have are Rohit Kohli Raina. Of these guys who would you pick?

and fair enough Bulbul. But i dont understand this logic of not having any other options other than Dhoni. Injuries happen and people miss matches not to mention a huge drop in form. We need to have some sort of plan where in case Dhoni is out for whatever reason now that Sehwag/Gambhir/Yuvi are axed there is somebody ready to take over.

Actually Dhoni should have retired or dropped from T20. Unless you dont give opportunity to others how do we come to thier abilities. If Seeni stays Raina will be next T20 captain.

Other option is good.. Not based on IPL where you get the services of foreign players. Worst case scenario Raina will be given rein. He is also "calm and composed" lol

Anyone other than ROhit will be good. That guy is given everything on a platter based on this non-existent talent. You have to make the guys work hard not given things freely. With the amount of faith reposed in him what did he give in return? Zilch. Captaincy has to be earned.

Not too long ago, Dhoni's captaincy in IPL was showcased as one of his biggest successes and reasons why he should continue to be the India captain. How can that not be true for other IPL captains? Dhoni should have been sacked as a t20 captain long back. Anyone else but Dhoni in T20s now. 3 back to back World T20 shockers are enough.

Frankly in the West Indian/English conditions our batsmen were found wanting.. Other teams simply bounced us out. I am not sure any other captain could have addressed that issue. In SL we won 2 out of 3.. in the league game. lost out on NRR. Changing captain won't automatically make our bowlers more potent. One reason world T20 is a lottery is because we don't play many as a T20 team. We come together once in two years and play sometimes right after IPL. IIRC South Africa lost all 3 T20 games in the recent T20 in SL despite being blessed with such a top team.

the point isSA made changes in coach and captain the in aftermath of that. Over the duration of the last 3 WC's SA have gone from Smith to DeVilliers to Faf. Your not going to have any change if you stick to the same person again and again desite not even making the semis. India must be the only team to retain the same T20 captain from 2007 to 2012. I can understand if India made it to the knockouts once in the past 3 editions. But to not reach the semis 3 editions in a row is a disgrace. Even in the history of our ODI WC, we have always reached the later stages atleast once every 3 World cups. I understand they are 4 years apart but the point is you cant have such regular failure.

You are playing 1000s of ODIs between world cups. How many T20s you actually play between world T20s? South Africa has the best win/loss ratio outside world T20 games.. They are yet to win a world T20. Captaincy change doesn't mean you win games. Dhoni can be given a break. But his point was about how can you judge a captain based on IPL. We are judging Rohit based on IPL. Dhoni has far superior record to Rohit in IPL.

Doesn't really matter how the team faired in alient conditions. Didn't we do well in SA in 2007 and didn't Dhoni get the credit for the team doing well then? Then he has to take the blame as well for the last 3 failures. One failure can be ok but 3 back to back failures in a format where teams have changed their World T20 winning captains in the subsequent tournament? Crazy (though not crazier than retianing a guy who has led the team to back to back whitewashes though) As for nitpicking on how many we won and lost in a tournament, by that yardstick SA would be the most successful team of ICC tournaments! Fact remains we failed to make the knockouts on last 3 occasions and the captain has to go, especially given his own pathetic personal performance. And the last part about us playing T20s infrequently is precisely the reason we need to try out different players in that format. Also, despite persistent failures Dhoni is perhaps the only one who has played in nearly T20 we have played!

Also, in terms of 20-20 India have just not evolved, while the rest of the cricketing world has. The same Dhoni tactics again and again and again. India need fresh ideas.

India is still world no.3 ranked T20 side :hmmm: with or without world T20 cup. That is interesting.
india is also ranked number 1 in the ODIs. Does not mean we will win the champions trophy.... Its time to move on from Dhoni in the T20s. He has earned the right to defend his crown in the ODIs in 2015. T20 represents a good place to try out a new captain and have a fresh setting of ideas.
