I think selectors should start looking at promoting Sharma into the vice-captaincy role that Kohli has been occupying at least for ODIs and T20s. Kohli seemed very immature-ish throughout the IPL and his frequent run-ins with other India players and even the crowd indicates that he still has a very long way to go before he can hold a position of responsibility like captaincy. Sharma on the other hand, has handled it really well and has been notable for diffusing tense situations on the field. He got most decisions right and was not afraid to experiment with his bowling order. In terms of captaincy skills, Rohit Sharma >> Virat Kohli

The main problem with this is that Sharma isn't a permanent member of the ODI-Test squad.....He needs to sort his batting out first.......the rest will follow....

yeah Rohit needs to be given a go in the T20 team. As thing stands Dhoni does not have a great international t20 record. Its fair to say Rohit has a good T20 record at international and IPL level.

Some incidents today -- 1. He wanted a mid off for R Dhawan but he did not; Rohit ceded. After launching the first ball for four, Rohit got his field. R Dhawan went on to ball an excellent rest over. 2. In the last ball of the 19th over, Dinesh Karthik screeched a huge "Yeaah!" as the target was almost out of hands for CSK. Now, Kaarthik is much more senior to Rohit but the captain went up to him and asked him to keep quiet.

FYI - White was Australia's T20 captain before Bailey took over. You may have not made the best analogy because White indeed captained SRH decently. There was also a reason White was chosen over Sammy (World T20 winning captain) by the team management consisting of Tom Moody and the shrewd Sangakkara.

I think he should be made V-C in both T20s and ODIs. It might even help his batting and make him feel more responsible. His batting seemed to have improved as well with captaincy in this IPL until the play-offs. Of course, I'm also a huge supporter of him being given a chance in Tests. He deserves them based on his FC record.

Rohit has sorted his on-field demeanor off late......once he brings consistency to his batting.....no one will be able to stop him.....

[/quote'] RCB had plenty of current and former India pace bowlers in their squad, but they seemed hell-bent on sticking with RP and VK. They also had Pankaj Singh, but preferred not to even give him one game. If Kohli did believe that RP and VK were no good, why didn't he replace them with other options that he had?

2. was especially good to see. I think we are also forgetting the role of John Wright and the other seniors in the side or team mentors like Kumble. I am sure Ponting Sachin Kumble Robin Singh and John Wright have some input in the tactical side of things. In that sense its a contrast of styles, Rohit is a young captain and listens to his think tank. Dhoni probably goes with gut instinct.

Well suppose Dhoni gets an injury. Who becomes captain in the T20s? Gautam, Rohit Kohli? One thing its fair to say is that Rohit wont be losing his temper. Cant say that of GG or Kohli. We have to keep in mind this captaincy was thrust upon Rohit after Sachin and Bhajji said no and Ponting was a failure with the bat. With a young captain the role of a coach becomes extra important.

Surely its cos Sammy was not a guaranteed starter until fairly late on and if he was to drop out, Sanga would come into the side and captain the team.

Let him cement his place in the team fully first. Different pressure all together international level and he hasn't had great conversion rate at the highest level. I would rather have him play freely instead of taking any pressure from captaincy

Rohit sharma needs to bat well and make a permanent place in team ,Captaincy is far ahead.But he does look calm and composed on the field and rarely Mc,Bc his own players.
