Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer Ajay Shirke and secretary Sanjay Jagdale have resigned from their posts. There is pressure on BCCI chief N Srinivasan to step down after his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan was arrested last Friday on betting allegations. However, Mr Srinivasan has refused to resign. Mr Shirke on Wednesday had called for BCCI president N Srinivasan's resignation on moral grounds. Yesterday, he had said, "If the board continues to ignore what I consider is primary responsibility, I will find it difficult for myself to be associated with it." "The credibility of the Board and the perception in which it is operating is taking a beating and increasingly so. Given the continuous media speculation and the resulting damage to the image of the board, it is important that this is put to rest," Mr Shirke said.

I still call it all BS. God knows there are plenty of other reasons why BCCI head honchos need to resign.. but this stupid spot fixing scandal is the least of them. What do they expect BCCI to do? Force their players to wear a GPS tracking device and speak on monitored cell phones only all the time?

No, the issue is that the head of the BCCI who is supposed to investigate this mess happens to own a team which is under the scanner and his damaad happens to be a suspect. how can someone investigate his own franchise and his own son in law ?

The accused person gets investigated by his own party or family members. That's a fundamental problem. It seems that many just woke up today on that. And thus a lack of consistency of (media + public). And unlike the government, at least the BCCI have taken some actions and the president is at least having to answer the questions. That's commendable when I compare to the rest of Indian scandals hopeless investigations. Srini definitely does not deserve to be out for these reasons alone. And more important, I do not understand how many are "celebrating" this issue.

If BCCI and respective state boards were so committed to keeping the game clean, they would have immediately called meeting after this fiasco took place and take action against Srini, as there was enough prima facie evidence in the hands of the police. The fact is, everyone in the BCCI is holding on their cards very strongly and only reacting after having weighed the consequences/benefits of being for/against Srini.

police are not gonna go after somebody as powerful as srinivasan and his son-in-law without solid proof

The ROI on fixing claims is very low; maximum life-time suspension for players. No jail time unless the players conduct themselves stupidly in the court.

Meanwhile, recently-resigned BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale has said he will not return to the BCCI fold. “I think I am done with my innings," Jagdale said in Indore. "The spot-fixing and betting scandal has badly dented the image of cricket. A massive clean-up job is required to overcome this. But this will take time as the damage done is very big. "It is very difficult to stop fixing in cricket and BCCI has its own limitations. But the board can strengthen its surveillance and curb the menace of fixing. At the same time, the BCCI will have to take strict action against cricketers who are found guilty. To earn the faith of fans, the BCCI administrators will have to show determination and work as a unit."
