LONDON: British councillor Narinder Kaur Kooner has written to the Indian government asking that the organs of eight-year-old Gurkiren Kaur Loyal be returned to her family to carry out a proper cremation of their daughter. Gurkiren, a resident of Birmingham, died in mysterious circumstances during her first family holiday to Punjab in April. Later, when her body was returned to the family in the UK after a postmortem, it was found that her internal organs were missing. Subsequently, the Sikh family claim that their daughter was murdered by health workers as part of an organ trade racket. Gurkiren Kaur Loyal's family said she was being treated for a simple case of dehydration when staff at a clinic gave her a mystery injection which took her life. The foreign office has confirmed that Gurkiren from Hockley died in India on April 2. On Friday, Gurkiren's mother Amrit Kaur Loyal said: "India killed my daughter. She was perfectly healthy. Despite several inquiries, we have not heard from the doctors in India or the British high commission what that mystery injection was that killed her and why was it given. My daughter was perfectly healthy and perfect." "The doctors in India didn't think that I would carry out a second post-mortem, but we did when we received the body in the UK. The coroner told us that there were no internal organs. Her funeral is incomplete. We want our daughter's organs back so that we can carry out a proper funeral," Amrit Kaur said on Thursday. Councillor Kooner from Hockley said "We are helping the family get justice. What they went through during their trip to India is horrific and has caused outrage in England. Getting Gurkiren's organs back is the first priority." Gurkiren was subjected to a post-mortem examination during which all her major organs were removed in a bid to hide the truth of how she had been killed, the family says. Gurkiren's family said the Indian police and medical authorities made little attempt to investigate the death. Only her eyes remained, they said. Recalling the horrific incident, Amrit Kaur who was on a trip to India with her postal worker husband Santokh Singh Loyal and 17-year-old son Simran, claimed Gurkiren's medical records were disposed of and the family were not asked to pay for the blood tests, drip or the injection she received. "Gurkiren was fine, she was chatting to us and planned to buy some gifts for her cousins. While we were talking, an assistant came up carrying a pre-filled syringe and reached for the tube in her hand. I asked what was the injection for, but he gave me a blank look and injected the liquid into her." "Within a split-second Gurkiren's head flipped back, her eyes rolled in her head, and the colour completely drained from her. I knew they had killed her on the spot. I knew my innocent child had been murdered." Gurkiren, described as a "bright and bubbly pupil" at Nishkam School in Soho Road, Handsworth was on her first foreign holiday visiting her frail grandmother, who later died, over the Easter break. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/uk/UK-asks-India-to-return-organs-of-8-year-old-mother-says-India-killed-my-daughter/articleshow/20371030.cms

there is more to this story, organ traders exploit weaker section makes no sense to go for an girl who is likely to attract a lot of attention

^ it could be timing. Someone could be paying top dollar for an 8-10 year old's heart right about then when she was admitted and the greedy bastards decided to go for it.

In India, normally when a post mortem is conducted, the viscera(organs) are removed and preserved for further examination. I am not an expert but almost all bodies after a postmortem here come back with a cotton wool stuffing in the empty cavity. Whereas, in the UK there is a legislation that unless the parents consent, the organs should be placed back in side the body. Gruesome as it might be, this is the sad reality. I doubt there is an organ trafficking angle. If there is, it would be pretty stupid considering the victim is a foreign national and subject to intensive further examinations.

This girl was the easiest target in a very short time window. And when good money is on offer, big risks look small.

This is NOT a case of organ trafficking. Organs are useless postmortem. It's just the emotional parents making such statements. The organs were most removed to hide malpractice.

The only way any vital organs, including kidneys or eyes can be removed from a person is when the person is clinically alive. The girl was dead for hours before postmortem. The organ trading story is bunk. And any of you really believe the attendant will put an injection to kill right in front of witnesses? Its just a grieving family who is not coming to terms with the sudden demise of a child

@mtc what you are saying is entirely possible. There is not enough clarity on important aspects of the case to surmise either ways. Do we know the organs weren't harvested while the child was in the hospital?

You have a point there. But there is something very wrong here and we need to find that out make it right. It's a huge blow for the blooming medical tourism field.

All reports say that the family was with the body whole night after death. so there is no way organs could be harvested

^ there is obviously a gap in the chain of custody or why would this be an issue for the family. If the body was within eyesight all the way the question simply does not arise. Wouldn't the media outlet catch this when putting the report together. Also a few organs can probably be harvested - within a certain time window - after clinical death. I know this to be true for eyes for one.

Eyes have to be harvested within the first few hours and kept carefully. And surely you do not think that eyes are expensive enough for someone to kill? The family is in shock and had 2 major issues 1) Organs were missing post-mortem They immediately came to the conclusion it was organ theft. Whats more likely is that the hospital screwed up and was hiding evidence 2) Secondly, the injection which they thought killed their daughter. Again this is the reaction of a grieving family Most of the initial news was carried in foreign media where the news of murder for organ theft in a foreign third world country is the stuff of urban legends and makes for good selling rather than a normal case of medical negligence

^ I mentioned eyes because in your earlier post you had categorically mentioned eyes as being useless after death. That needed to be addressed. I also haven't checked which media outlet carried the news so gave it the benefit of doubt that is due to an average media shop that does due diligence before filing a report. I am guessing you are calling it a rag. If that's the case this discussion is moot.

There is very little dignity for life in our country...leave aside dignity for a dead body. There was a news report sometime back on the condition of the bodies that are donated for science. They had shown the body of a proffessor ,who had donated his body .It was lying in pieces in a dirty metal tank . There was another report about postmortems being conducted on the floor in the open often by helpers in filthy pathetic conditions. It is very likely that the organs were either thrown away or misplaced in storage. The story about organ harvesting seems very unlikely considering the family was present all the time.

True - I had a chance to visit Edinburgh Castle and there was this war memorial inside one of the buildings in the castle where you aren't allowed to take photographs. I went inside and was pleasantly surprised to find the names of all men/women who served in WW1/ WW2 written in a book kept on lecterns. You could go through those names as well. The memorial was embellished with quotes from the Bible on life/death. The cost of maintaining the war memorial comes from the royal family funds. Contrast this to India, where forget an appropriate memorial but we do not even know the actual number of people dead in a casualty or terror strike even in major cities. I doubt we care about "people" but at the same time the very same people do not care about other "people" too. Apna Kaam Banta, Toh Bhaad Mein Jaaye Junta PS - I found some Indian names in the war memorial books too. Both India and Pakistan have had strong connection with Scotland apparently.
