zakk Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Dhawan played a good knock top scoring.. Bhuvi bowled superbly upfront giving away just 18 in 9 overs. That build the pressure which led to the wickets. Ishant's 3rd wicket was a bit flukey another reason :hysterical:
Swing_n_Speed Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Rohit - 5.5 : Couldn't convert his starts though he had a decent outing. Batting with Dhawan must have helped. Dhawan - 10 Kohli - 6 : Did well towards the business end of the tourney. Karthik - 4 : Did well in warmups but only flattered to deceive. Raina - 5 : For those brilliant catches. Dhoni - 9 : Excellent captaincy and wicketkeeping. Jadeja - 10 : Superb in whatever he did. Ashwin - 8 : Bowled amazingly well in the knockouts apart from his 2 wonderful slip catches. B Kumar - 8 : Kept the pressure with his tight opening spells and also taking out openers from every match barring the final. I sharma - 5 : Those 2 wickets turned the match, apart from that there was little good he did. He did get a MOM against SL but that was a bit undeserving IMO. U Yadav - 3 : Like Dinesh, flattered to deceive. After that wonderful opening spell against Aussies in warmups, much was expected from him. But he did get the important wicket of Cook in the final. +1 Though I'd give Rohit a 7. He batted out some tough pitches and formed invaluable partnerships up front!

That build the pressure which led to the wickets. Ishant's 3rd wicket was a bit flukey That was not a flukey. that was a plan to bowl short to Thissara who hits anything pitched up and on a long boundary that worked. Everything to Thissara was short. You gave Rohit 5.5 who played second most important role in batting after Dhawan, giving solid opening in every match bar one where he had to attack in a 20 over game. You gave Dhoni 9. Dhoni got 0 points in batting but cant give more than 6-7 for Wk and captaincy alone when he failed in batting whenever needed.

Rohit batted well against SA and WI, but failed against Pak and played a nothing shot against SL. Got a good delivery against Broad but his feet were nowhere. Winning the trophy with that bowling lineup was a humongous task. Just see some older threads and the general opinion here. People were saying we won't even defend 300 with this bowling etc

People were saying we won't even defend 300 with this bowling etc Watch that ball again, that was short ball which he pulled straight to the fielder. It is not about how much he scored but whether we got a good start or not. I wont call he failed against Pak. He played decently in that match too though could not capitalize. You cannot say that because he played a poor shot. You should see what he did prior to that shot. He had already given a good start while chasing a low total on a tough track. Regarding people opinion, yes, no one thought we will win it, but no one thought we will get such pitches where our spinners will do wonder and that is why we could win it if we had the pitches like in 2011, we would have struggled. But credit where its due, Dhoni handled the bowlers decently if not the best, but still he could not do much with the bat and others had to do the job he was supposed to do, so those points have been cut. He scores 0 point with the bat. You can divide his points 4 for batting, 3 for keeping, 3 for captaincy and he gets 6 for me as I always think captain is as good as the team. Players did well, team did well and his captaincy came through.

Even if you look at it that way, we had 50 runs opening partnership against Pak in which Dhawan scored 33. Rohit scored 18(32) and once again the way in which he got out was frustrating. Yes he played well against Lanka before that but still should have continued, getting out like that was bad. Did get some quick runs against SA plus he got only 2 opportunities to bat so can't really give him a 0.

With new ball, it is not just about scoring, but staying at the wicket in a low scoring game on a difficult pitch.

kruiser Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 10 for the entire team! I thought India won the CT! Could you have done it with 10 players only? Everyone filled rather exceeded their roles superbly. You are comparing Bhuvi with Ishant who are 2 different types of bowlers. Bhuvi bowling after 30 overs has been canon fodder for batsmen where as Ishant comes first change and was very impressive through out. Got good bounce and troubled batsmen. Many fans here probably do not like IShant's hairstyle :) and hate him! I Am not his fan, but he did admirably well in this tourney!!!
