Ricky Ponting pads up for Ten commentary box

RICKY Ponting has moved from the field to the commentary box taking up a job commentating on the cricket with Channel Ten. The network recently won the rights to the Big Bash League and will use the former skipper as the centrepiece of its broadcast team. The Weekend Australian revealed last week that Ponting had retired from cricket and would be taking up a position with either of the cricket networks. The cricketer was in talks with both Channel 9 and Ten but the latter won out and will announce the deal today. There had been speculation that Ponting would move into a coaching role but he has opted to stand back from the game for now. Ten has paid $16m a year to broadcast the Twenty20 tournament that has been Cricket Australia's biggest gamble of recent times. The administration spent big on promoting the tournament and suspends first class cricket for the two months it is played, in the hope that it would attract interest when the TV rights come up. The BBL aims to attract younger audiences to the game but also to create a separate revenue stream that breaks the reliance on international cricket.

poor choice, the guy couldnt play spin and never won a test match in india as captain. he will never appeal to the audience that matters- indians why don't they try to sign harbhajan singh? he is a very likable and popular cricketer

i dont think its an issue of the ashes over anything else. He is playing for Surrey and then the CPL after which he will end his cricketing career with the champions trophy. i am sure he will be back with the ipl in some capacity.
