U19 team looks a level above

After Dhoni guides India to win, Boys in Blue join the party Down Under Within hours of MS Dhoni guiding India to tri-series triumph in Trinidad, many miles away in the other end of the world, the U-19 team repeated the feat in Darwin, Australia. Unlike the senior Indian team that had to rise from two losses to win the next three matches including the final, the Vijay Zol-led India U-19 posted comfortable victories, none more so than the eight-wicket victory against Australia U-19 in the International tri-series on Friday. After bundling out Australia U-19 for 75 in 24.4 overs, India U-19 took only 15.3 overs to meet the target. India Colts will return to India on Saturday with a 100 per cent victory record on the tour. While coach Bharat Arun was ecstatic on the team's all-win record, he was concerned about his batsmen not having been tested to the maximum by the opponents. Speaking to dna from Darwin after the triumph, Arun said: "One area I want the team to be stretched is the middle-order. We have other tournaments coming up like the tour to Sri Lanka and the quadrangular series at home. Hopefully we will be stretched there. The learning is much better when the players are stretched. "The bottom line of our team is stay focussed on the process. We have maintained that we are not looking at the results. Winning or losing does not matter. What matters is the process. If a bowler has bowled one good ball, the challenge is to bowl another good delivery. For batsmen, it is to take one ball at a time, stay focussed, occupy the crease, get a feel of the pitch and then the sub-conscious takes over." Arun said that the players adapted to the conditions very well. "How much ever we simulate the conditions at home, getting first-hand experience is important. The bowlers did a magnificent job, getting better with every match. Not just the medium-pacers, the spinners, particularly Kuldeep Yadav (left-arm) was outstanding. He mesmerised the opponents. He created an aura akin to what Malcolm Marshall did when he toured India. Fast bowlers, especially Abhimanyu Lamba and Chima Milind, really bowled well. The conditions suited them. Kuldeep did not do too well the last time he came to Australia. Now, he is a transformed bowler. I guess this experience will help him in a long way. Aamir Gani also bowled very well" Arun praised Zol's leadership qualities. "Vijay was simply outstanding with the bat. He is very enthusiastic, brings in a lot of energy and leads by example. He batted with a lot of authority. He has been to Aus on two occasions before, for a tri-series and World Cup last year. This experience will make him a much better player," Arun said, adding that Mumbai's Akhil Herwadkar was the mainstay of the Indian batting. "Akhil has been very consistent with the bat. Ankush Bains's keeping was a real hallmark. These little things will give us a lot of inputs (for preparing for the World Cup). There are a few areas we need to work on. I would like the middle order to be put in trying conditions and see how they come up," Arun said. He added: "Barring our match against Papua New Guinea, where we got out for 136 and bowled them out for 65 on a green top, the pitches were true with a lot of bounce and grass. Even spinners got assistance in terms of bounce." India U-19's preparation for next year's World Cup received praise from legendary Australian Greg Chappell, who is Cricket Australia's National Talent Manager. Arun, who had a long chat with Chappell during the series, said: "Chappell said that our side has prepared very well and it would take a mammoth effort to beat India. He said 'the way you guys go about, you seem to be far ahead of the rest'. This coming from Chappell is a very big compliment." Arun, who coached the India U-19 team to triumph in last year's World Cup in Australia said: "The World Cup victory was very very special. Every victory is sweet. This a relative new team. Coming to a foreign country in unknown conditions and conquering the home team convincingly on all the three times we played them was satisfying. The boys were pretty tense when they met Australia for the first time. But after playing them, they know that they are good and can beat any team. The confidence level changes. It reflected in the final. It was a great experience. To them, a victory on international soil is a very big thing. But, the pressure that goes with World Cup is something different," Arun, former India opening bowler, said. Deepak Hooda : Terrific Performances I was going through his latest matches apart from the top end series, and just seeing 3-4 matches he has played, in all of them he had a big part in helping his team win the match with both bat & ball. Looks to be a talented allrounder of some sorts. Still dont know if he bowls medium pace or is a spinner.
