adityac3688 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 So I recently became a captain of my team, And I'm having a bit of trouble controlling my team and managing it. Till now i've had 2 successful wins and 3 disheartening losses, The losses that we recently had is making it really tough for me to make up new decisions for our team. Our team has 2 spin bowlers and 3 fast bowlers, 4 Batsman and 2 All-Rounders, Does anyone have tips for captaining? :--D
Cricketics Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I have been of my college team and all I would recommend is to stay positive and create positive atmosphere on the team regardless of whatever the situation is. If your team needs 250 in 20 overs to win. Don't ask your openers try to score close to 250, but instead put in their head that "We got this".All's achievable, just play normal. On the field, if catches are dropped or if a bowler is going for too many runs, don't get angry at him, instead go to him and talk to him. Mentally bowlers get under pressure after giving runs on the first or second ball of the over and then they finish the rest of the over under pressure. You got to go to them and calm them and talk to them. It's that little talk which really helps. Also, one really important thing. Ask your team members to not give advice to the bowlers when he is going for runs. Sometimes all the players in the team want to share their "gyan" and will ask the bowler to bowl this, that etc and doing that they will simply put too much pressure on the bowler who is already going for runs. Ask your players to not talk much. Tell them to give you the advice whatever they want instead of going straight to bowlers and talking to brain. Too many players talking on the field can hurt the team.

surajmal Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Opportunity to show your captaincy acumen usually arise while you are fielding. So, dress smartly. Gel your hair. Wear sunglasses. Fold your arms while fielding. Always stand in the slips but keep a third man so you don't have to run. While field setting, exaggerate your gestures (almost as if you are a traffic cop). Always have that thinking man's look. Keep rotating bowlers (3-4 over spells); It will make team think that you have a plan (even when you don't). If you still fail, blame the team. :two_thumbs_up:
gattaca Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 trust your players , know them off and on field after all cricket is a team game and define clear jobs and responsibilities for each of them and play well so they trust you as a captain.
adityac3688 Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 Wow, Thanks a lot guys! Lots and lots of help here :), The Boys are doing well lately and it turned out that these tips have been really useful for all of us! We had a friendly match against another clubs List A team, And we all did really well! Our fielding was extremely tight, We didn't let a lot of balls go over the boundary, But our Top Order sadly collapsed and there was too much work for the middle order, Chasing 275 Runs! We were really close, I used these tips really wisely! It worked well, But later on the team couldn't keep focus when we needed 19 runs off 6 balls, There was a bit of choking.
adityac3688 Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 Copy dhoni :rose: Can't copy Dhoni, He's a completely experienced keeper and has lots of tactics up his sleeve.
