Swing_n_Speed Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 How much crap do you take at work. Grumpy, obnoxious bosses? Colleagues who just won't help. How bad or how good is it for you? I'm preparing for the CPA exam and so changed jobs from a hectic but dying fund management group, to a lesser paid but extremely easy banking job in acquiring. And he difference between the jobs is stark. There it was international, a British boss, a canteen, flexible working hours; so long as the work gets done, a relaxed well managed environment, systematic with an eye of social responsibility. And now it's all upside down. I could rant for pages. But I'm interested in knowing how is it for the rest of you guys? How do you tackle challenging situations in the workplace? Do you fight back or do you submissively take all the crap handed down? Any tips and advise would be much appreciated.

Over the time - set some ground rules and make yourself you yourself not violate them. Concentrate more on getting your work done. Prove your credentials - use them to decrease the crap intake you take over a period of time. velu Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 in my workplace i m learning politics in additional to other work related skills.. my problem is, 1) boss who dont know necessary thing who is bothered abt saving his ass 2) insecure collague/competitor in my case both r far more elder than me and both do extreme politics.. other guys just keep quiet but i always fight.. recently i escalated few issues to HR and skip level managers and things seems to be bit normal.. my learning: when we have issue with someone above us in designation , take the issue to his mgr or someone higher up in the designation.. my mgr is sort of puppy in front of his mgrs and i escalted few things , and now he is bit more careful with myself :two_thumbs_up:

I am the junior most guy in our team with 2 and half years of experience while rest all are at least 5 years to 10 years. All of them help me out in all possible manner and even in my personal matters sometimes. My team lead has always protected us all from everyone. Never forces us to do anything and talks and behaves with us like friends. Consults with us before setting any deadlines. I have never ever gone to work in a Saturday or Sunday. On top of all these I really love software development. Enjoy every bit of it. Till now I have enjoyed my professional life thoroughly. :dance:

And it's crazy. heavy politicking,insecurity, a boss with a short temper, though he's never blasted me off...yet, it's unnerving to see him yell at other employees, and their quirks, drive you crazy. Apparently if there is an issue that has to be resolved I cannot email him with details, I have to print it on a paper and present, and tons of other nonsensical whims, has me hoppin mad. Previous jobs I had it real awesome, but this is crap. Anyways need to hang in for 10-12 months before I can move on.

She would purposely stay as late as possible just to give you the stink eye if you left earlier than her. Any open website , email etc would result in an immediate "meeting" and a demand for updates. Intentionally interrupt and force you to cut short lunch with "critical" meetings though no one but she would turn up. My theory was she was sex starved yet a misandrist but who knows!
