What I also forgot is the 'malnourshed and pathetic ' pacer and the 'bloated' pacer were both part of the same IPl squad. One took 1 wicket@78, the other took 13 wickets@28. Wonder if Gambhir and later Kohli in WI are all 'maha trundler' lovers as well . Looks like other than Ganguly no one else loved pacers. :((

He has always been a super inconsistent bowler. A few good performances followed by lots of bad ones. The team management should know that by now and unless he overcomes his problems he should not be in the team. Also, he had not been dropped after these horrible performances. Just sitting out one match so far, still in the 15. See, the approach for team selection and pacer selection should be choosing the best bowlers available at the moment. Simple. Is Ishant among the top 4 pacers in the country at this moment or even before this series. I would say NO. Long rope to only the best pacers / players at the moment please.

Actually, Ishant has not really been good in any series. At best, average. His stats look good because he could bowl wicket taking deliveries here and there. In Pakistan series, in first match, if he and Dinda had bowled better with new ball, we could have won that match. He has not made use of those bowling conditions. Even in WI, he was expensive at times while BK was creating all sorts of problems. Until, he improves his seam position, he is going to see such days more often than not even in helpful conditions. Yadav was struggling with condisentcy in CT and WI.

Ishant did well in Mohali and he could still be a force only if he sorts out his seam position and stay on one action, do not change it after every series.

I like Shami's length if he continues to bowl it. He may get hit in ODIs and T20s on pattas, but it will pay dividends in places like SA and Australia in test matches.

Why did Ishant come back in the ODIs to start with ? He was never good. Even after his comeback he was average and lacked consistency. Helpful pitches and weak opposition batting, on many occasions, made his statistics look better. Everyone who is good enough to knock on the national side's door will produce a few good performances. The selectors and team management must have the ability to pick long term consistent performers out of them.

Zaheer was unfit, Umesh was unfit, Irfan Pathan was unfit, Aaron not available. I think even PK, Munaf, Sreesanth were all not fit around that time. So they picked BK and Shami as two new pacers in the squad with Dinda retaining his spot and Ishant coming back

Shami was actually doing it. That means wonderful length and line. He punctuated this by occasional well directed bouncers and good Yorkers at the end. Nobody should tamper with this guy. He looks good.

The main reason we struggled was sluggish conditions where chasing a scoreof 227 under lights required a lot of singles with uneven two paced pitches. the 2006 series in WI and 2007 WC also had the same story. the current generation won't lose such matches.

But with Dhoni' date=' apart from Asia Cup 2008 final(where Mendis destroyed us) I can't remember us losing any other final.[/quote'] Game has changed.indian youngsters have changed. strike rates raina-91 dhoni-88.54 rohit-76 kohli-87 sehwag-104 yuvraj-87 ganguly-73 dravid-71 kaif-72 laxman-71 obviously combining yuvraj/sehwag (when they were senior) with raina and dhoni was more destructive than it was with the mid 90's generation.while rohit is lowest at 76 its still better than ganguly,a premier batsman of the previous decade. add to that agile fielding,running between wickets(think of ganguly,sidhu and manjrekar),sharp throws,things indian teams of the past were mocked for.no wonder the ODI team is rising . In the bowling nothing major ,more 130+ bowlers available than those years ago.yet to reflect in results.
