I agree and Ganguly was a visionary and moulded his team whereas Dhoni is useless in terms of grooming and selecting , spotting potential talent, he is not sophisticated smart or wants to do anything about the teams weakness

Tinu Yohanan, Amit Bhandari, Avishkar Salvi, Joginder Sharma, Iqbal Siddiqui, JP Yadav, RP Singh (who used to bowl 125 at that time), Sanjay Bangar, Reetinder Sodhi What is common to the above list? Most of them 'maha trundlers', many of them 'malnourished & pathetic' besides having made their debut under Dada. Might as well add the likes of SS Das and Kaif who looked equally 'malnourished'. Had ICF been around, god knows the kind of abuses Ganguly would have got for picking these type of players.

I agree on Ganguly's leadership skills .. However ,I have seen him support Ashok Dinda also vociferously saying that he is workhorse and anytime as a Bengal captain he asked him , he was always ready to bowl his heart out ..He praised his work ethic ..Do you think his evaluation is justfied ?

if you remember dinda during Zimbabwe tour in 2009-10, he was bowling 140-145s . Fast bowlers have a short life. As they get older they would slow down. Ganguly may have had a soft corner for dinda but he was quick to criticize him when he bowled rubbish against England in t20 world cup. He kept saying dinda is pitching way too short and he called him ordinary after the match. Dinda did slowed down and I don't think dada never supported him after that.

And one major thing that helped all these players in their early years was the Talent Resource Development Officers (TRDO) program of BCCI. For some reason when the Sharad Pawar Group took over, they disbanded the structure

And all of them played 2-3, 2-3 matches and got discarded. Number of matches all of them played for India combined is lesser than no. of games Vinay alone has played. Bangar and Yadav were all rounders we tried for Robin Singh's replacement and both of them had more pace than Robin Singh.

absolutely correct..we started to win test matches/series abroad.ganguly showed great faith on the youngster.the world cup run in 2003 was the best thing that happened to indian cricket ,after the nzl tour,nobody even considered us getting past the GS but the way he led a young indian pace attack was commendable

and they all got booted out rightly after playing just handful of matches..most of them except rp singh played less than 10 odis i think but here we have a captain who is giving assurances to guys like vinee of playing at least 100 odis,ishant of playing 100 test etc.. guys with poor odi records are still playing year in year out and still not dropped. hope u got the difference,its not only about selecting incompetent bowlers but at least drop them or dont give them a long rope where we know they will perform poorly

Not true. Ganguly definitely brought a new direction to the team with his aggression. But what he also brought to the team was "ego". It doesn't get talked or mentioned often, but this ego culture, seniors/juniors, too big for the shoes happened greatly under Ganguly. And Chappel was at the receiving end of it when he tried to change that. Not to forget, Ganguly being a coward and his personal plays. Thus, really, this topic is a big fail without Dhoni as an option.
