G_B_ Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Entry into U-19 competing against other kids...U-19 WC's have traditionally been given a lot of importance in selections to Indian team to be fair in case of Praveen and Shami they appear to have solid ranji stats. Lets put it this way. If i wake up one and read based on a bone test analysis or something that Shami is older than what he claims to be. Wont be surprised. Yes at under 19 level it is of importance. But the ICC does conduct bone analysis tests for the WC atleast for the past WC editions. Interesting to note Shami has not been part of India under19s or his ciricnfo page does not mention it. Neither has Praveen Kumar....

G_B_ Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 well in any case. Good luck to him. So long as he bowls well i am sure he will make his way into the Indian side in all formats. certainly bowled well today on a road of a pitch. Personally for the WI series at home i will stick with Umesh and Bhuvi and bring in Shami for Sa and NZ. Axe Ishant for Zaheer (if Zaheer bowls well in the ranjis) or bring in Pandey
saneindian Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Shami can't be 28-29. Remember watching a show on TV where they visited his first school in his hometown in UP (Amroha near Moradabad). The teacher said Shami came to this school in 1994 when he was 4 years old. Now a 7-8 year kid cannot be studying in KG. Shami was there till class 8 when aged 13, he moved to Kolkata on the advice of his club coaches at Moradabad.
G_B_ Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 so that is that..:hysterical: it was never an issue to begin with. more of an observation on my part...:winky: International cricket has no barriers on age. Look at Afridi, forever 16. If what sane says is true (and we really do have to take the word of the teacher for it) then he is 23. Its not unheard of for older children to enrole in schools late. A visit to mumbai's local schools you can find many children 3-4 years older than their standard due to some unfortunate circumstances. The MCA conducted tests (bone analysis tests) for the local kanga league under 16 matches and every year there are 7-10 kids who are 2-3 years older than what they claim to be. For all we know Shami had a growth spurt later in his childhood.

Jersey #10 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 All I care for is #4... the rest ehhh Tendulkar Tests bro.... Tendulkar Tests
rkt.india Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Still maintain Shami has been unimpressive...Better than Vinay Kumar is not even a benchmark but let us see what he has got in tests Best fast bowler in the series from both sides and you are saying unimpressive. Average 22, SR 20 and 6 out of 7 wickets bowled/LBW breaching the defense.

Even if he is 25, not 23, does not matter much as long as he keeps working on his fitness that is one thing I want him to do. I still see he bowls his first 5 overs full intensity but loses that in lat 2-3 overs of the match. He will have to maintain that for longer in test matches. This is one area he should continue to work on.

Zanjeer Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 to be fair i have my doubts about him as well. Not too sure about birth certificates in some parts of the country.... Not that it makes a difference to team selection. Just saying It does makes a difference in team selection. If he bowls bad, People would argue that he is young and he should be persisted with when he is actual age is very high. Its important that selection committee takes a note of these things.
saneindian Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 Eden set to roll out slow turner against West Indies I hope its not like the Nagpur we had for 4th test vs England. Eden generally has good bounce for spinner, low bounce and slow turn could make this a complete battathon like the test vs Pak in 2005.

StriKe Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 What will happen to 4th and 5th day celebration for SRT and tickets ? if the play got over on third day itself :giggle:
Magneto Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 What will happen to 4th and 5th day celebration for SRK and tickets ? if the play got over on third day itself :giggle: I think they don't have a unique celebration idea for Day 5, because of which they want it to be wrapped in 4 days itself. All available season tickets have been sold out, so no loss of ticket revenue either. :giggle:

Yet another boring Test.
