'Pay for SL job embarrassing' - Rixon

This is some poor stuff from Rixon guy. This interview will ruin his image. If I were a BCB president I would think twice before appointing him as national coach. His comments seemed negative about lankan cricket. Best option would have been to politely say no.
I got to be honest. He is the aussie assistant coach and earns a fair sum with CSK in the IPL. My gusstimate is that he is currently earning a lot more than what the BCB can offer. Rixon should have no doubt kept quiet about it. By airing this in public I think even other foreign managers are going to be scared away. Not nice to make fun of somebody for being poor.

No matter what he earns.....he should have kept quite & politely say no to SLC. What does he proves by making it public. We all know not every cricket board can pay the same salary to their coaches...but now he looks like an idiot in cricket world.

Rixon is an assistant for a reason. Being greedy is in his blood - his career ended when he went on rebel tour of apartheid South Africa Failed at Surrey (richest county by a distance) with all their resources.
LMAO who hasn't failed at Surrey in recent times. If anything the London based counties have all been terrible in the last decade. Not fair on steve. I mean look at Surrey this year. Bought Smith and then Ponting and a whole host of big county names. Get relegated :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Somerset bring in Chawla and he helps them in staying up :hysterical::hysterical:

Why do you think Fletcher is so quiet ? He is usually an outspoken person and was the BOSS when he used to be the coach of Engand team. All the major decisions were taken by him and the players (including Nasser Hussain) used to follow his words. You should probably read Sharda's article on Fletcher http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/590919.html

WOW that is a lot of money. If you are a coach the Indian job must be the pinnacle in cricket for you. fletcher might be in the job till 2015 so thats like 2.8 million. Many coaches in the English premier league dont earn that much.

They need to get a home coach. Though I know the SL board hate Mervyn Atapattu, whom they pushed to retire, he is one of those who comes across as a person who always put team, country in front of him. I think he would do a good job for them as coach. Or take Dharamsena. It will be good riddance from the umpiring panel.

SLC denies Rixon asked for interview Andrew Fidel Fernando November 22, 2013 Sri Lanka Cricket has denied it requested Australia assistant coach, Steve Rixon, to travel to Sri Lanka for an interview as part of the board's appraisal of candidates for the position of Sri Lanka head coach. In a statement released to ESPNcricinfo, the board said Rixon had been informed he would be required for an in-person interview if he had been shortlisted, but talks with him did not progress that far. Rixon had, this week, been scathing of the notion he should have to interview for the role, given the visibility of his track record. He had said the pay SLC had offered him for the job was "embarrassing" for the position of a national coach. "Sri Lanka Cricket would like to clarify that at no stage was [Rixon] shortlisted, neither was he asked to appear for an interview," the statement said. "SLC always follows the proper procedures and correct processes in recruitment and would never consider any applicant who is not prepared go through the proper process." Both Rixon and the board agree that he did not formally apply for the role, but the board said it was Rixon who had made initial contact, when he "intimated his desire to be the head coach of the Sri Lankan team," through a third party. The board also rejected Rixon's suggestion that the board had been lax in its communication with him, and said it was instead Rixon who had been unresponsive, hastening the end of their interaction. "SLC acting CEO, Mr. Ashley De Silva, contacted Mr. Rixon via telephone, and during the discussion he inquired about the package that is associated with the said post," the statement said. "Since it was inappropriate to disclose the package over the phone, SLC forwarded the current package and requested him to keep it confidential, and if he is shortlisted for the post, he will have to face an interview in Sri Lanka. "Mr. Rixon responded indicating that the package disclosed to him was not attractive enough for him to consider. ln order to pursue the matter further, SLC requested him to indicate an amount of his expectation. However, there was no response from Mr. Rixon to-date." Sri Lanka had initially shortlisted five candidates from their pool of 11 applications, before narrowing the field further, to two candidates. However, although current assistant coach Marvan Atapattu and Mark Davis comprise the two-man shortlist, the board has said their search is not necessarily confined to the remaining candidates. The new coach's first assignment will be Sri Lanka's full tour of Bangladesh, after Graham Ford steps down at the end of January. Ford had opted not to renew his contract, citing family reasons. http://www.espncricinfo.com/srilanka/content/current/story/691557.html :giggle:
