That was WACA pitch.

Even with those cracks it was a good surface for batting.

That big crack was too close to the crease to do any real damage. The pitch was not bad for batting by any means. It was a bit on the slower side which didnt help Johnson, Harris.

WACA has always been the same. People who haven't watched too many games in WACA during hot summers would find it odd and surprising. I still remember in early 90's when West Indies was still a force in test cricket, Ambrose and co dished out a almighty thrashing to Australia on a pitch which had a crack almost big enough for one of the players to fall in.
