A couple of months back, I got a msg from a mod saying that a comment i made on islam was offending to some. A month back, again a comment i made on Rama was seen as offending by some. So you see, as long as i kept my mouth shut, its not offending anyone. If the crowd didn't make the noise, then i dont think symmonds would be offended at all. Do u have a problem with all folks following a religion. Why!? :hatsoff:

Symonds was foolish and rude. but to mock people of african descent as monkey is nasty and racist. it is an extremely nasty habit that has no place in a civlised society. he can be confronted in several other ways but not THIS WAY. its nasty,below the belt and uncivilised

This is the first time i am reading your posts so sorry for the harsh reply. You don't see any racism here yet in the other thread you go on to call Ponting a racist? may i ask why? The reasoning which you have gave for the actions is even worse and makes me think that you don't understand the topic.

Whenever something gets splashed around the news and media like this incident did, you'll always find a few idiots trying to cover themselves in glory, not necessarily caring about what it means. Basically, either it was racist the first time round or it was not.

I have repeatedly said that equating a look of a black man to a monkey is offensive. how is that you are not able to get such a simple thing? why are you repeatedly ignoring this key factor? I've again said, why shouldn't a fat man be offended when his looks and physical apprearance are compared with an elephant? Ok, now I know that it is racism but will never know why. i am sorry i am losing my patience as you are repeatedly ignoring this. I'm not ignoring this. Now I've come to know that this has something to do with racism. But it is equally frustrating to see people not understanding here that monkey is not a pejorative in India.

Terribly offensive mind you, but difficult to say racist in the Indian context where stray monkeys are not rounded up because they are considered to be related to a God, and where elders regularly mildly rebuke children by calling them monkeys. Symonds and the Australian team go to town on all this, the ever sensationalist Indian media splatters the issue all over the place, every one worth his salt makes a comment on the issue, a few people see in it their chance to hit the headlines without caring about the connotations even when aware and repeat the act. Offensive, stupid etc.? Definitely yes. Racist? Not convinced.

No one finds that racist because a white man being compared to a chimp is not considered racist in the society. Similarly, I doubt people in the Indian crowd are aware that comparing a half black Australian cricketer to a monkey is racist.

So I end it here with this article: CA satisfied with BCCI's handling of racism issue London (PTI): Pleased with the way BCCI reacted to the issue of racial abuse of Andrew Symonds, Cricket Australia (CA) Chief Executive James Sutherland has said there was no question of boycotting the future tours of India. Symonds and his teammates, along with the Australian media, claimed the all-rounder had been subjected to racial abuse during the last three matches of the just-concluded ODI series and they were critical of the BCCI for its reluctance to acknowledge the incident. BCCI President Sharad Pawar later issued a joint statement along with his CA counterpart Creagh O'Connor and Sutherland seemed satisfied with that. "I don't think it has got to that stage or even gets to that stage (of boycotting)," Sutherland was quoted as saying by 'The Sporting Life' here. "There is an ICC anti-racism policy in place. The ICC and the BCCI, the host of these matches, will no doubt deal with these issues going forward. "It is really pleasing to see overnight the announcements by the Indian board president to condemn racism in cricket," he said. The top CA official was upset that after Vadodara and Nagpur, Symonds was subjected to monkey chants in Mumbai as well but he patted the BCCI for taking action against the offenders.

In one of the scenes in that movie Jackie Chan walks in to a bar full of black people and uses the N word which leads to a big fight. He didn't mean to cause any trouble, in fact he was just trying to be friendly(kind of like Chandan's god excuse) so you can't really fault him for that. Now imagine the next day news spreads all over the city and other Asians start using it to annoy the blacks. People might give Jackie the benefit of the doubt but the same can't be said about the other Asians who learnt about the sensitivity of the word yet continued to use it. I don't like the word Racist either so lets just agree that a handful of people were being offensive/stupid on a very sensitive issue.

While deprolable, it's not clear to me if it's racist. It's a bunch of people saying, "See we did something harmless from our side and this guy raised a huge hue and cry about it without trying to understand why we did it, we'll pi$$ him off more by doing it more". Reactionary, stupid, and offensive, sure. Not sure about racist. Racism is a much stronger sentiment than this, IMO.
