someone Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 DMK are in alliance with VC , Pudiya Thamilagam (Both Dalit parties) , Muslim league and MMK(both Muslim parties).DMK has allocated 1 seat each to all these parties and is contesting in 35 seats.Have already announced their candidates for all these 35 seats. DMK tried to rope in DMDK (Vijayakanth party) but he refused and has started alliance talks with BJP.Rumors are that he is allocated 14 seats and PMK 10 , MDMK 8 and BJP contesting in 10 seats. They havent confirmed their alliance yet becoz they cant yet agree on which constituency to whom.Very likely that one of them (PMK or DMDK) will walk out of the alliance due to the seat allocation issue. As for ADMK they are contesting in all 40 seats and have announced candidates and started campaining as well. It looked initially Cummunists were in alliance with Amma but couldnt agree on the no. of seats .CPM and CPI both wanted 3 each but ADMK gave 1 seat each.So the alliance broke off. What's with DMDK especially ? A lot of talks about their voteshare but isn't it declining? Latest, I have heard is that now they have decided to quit BJP led alliance and shift to DMK who are offering more seats and perhaps more money. Seems TN is a very fluid politics.
Texan Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Rumors are that he is allocated 14 seats and PMK 10 ' date=' MDMK 8 and BJP contesting in 10 seats.[/quote'] If this is indeed the seat distribution, then it is quite disturbing for the BJP. They should be contesting at least half the seats in TN to try and cash in on the pro-BJP wave. These allies can be pretty unpredictable and entrusting them with 75% of the seats is a risky move.

BJP doesn't make strong local leaders there and thus they do need alliances. So they are right in approaching other parties but I guess it's all about balance. Till how much? Particular as you mentioned, there is a lot unpredictability with these small parties. One thing for sure is this is the best chance for BJP to make a opening in TN Lok Sabha.
asterix Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 NDA needs to get the majority on its own else it will be forever held hostage by the 'federal/third front' party which helps it to get the majority... Very tough days ahead...
