Having been in a similar situation in 2009, where it had hurriedly shifted the popular league to South Africa, apparently against the wishes of the ministry of home affairs, the BCCI has this time chosen not to involve the government at this stage and is waiting for the election dates to be announced before making the itinerary public. "Unless the election dates are declared we cannot finalise the itinerary. As we understand, the elections dates are likely to be announced on February 27. We will announce the IPL 7 dates probably a day or two after that," a BCCI official said. "The elections are likely to be held in different phases from April 10th to May 10th. There is a good possibility that the IPL will be shifted to India in the last three weeks. This will also mean that most of the important games will be played at home," the official added. A total of 59 matches will be played by the eight teams in this year's IPL, making it a six-week affair. Earlier, there were reports that Sri Lanka or Bangladesh could end up being the beneficiaries, but according to the top functionary, the Board still had to make up its mind where the first half will be played. "Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and UAE could be considered as possible venues. But nothing has been decided yet." Denying that BCCI had sought MHA's opinion on the matter, the source said, "We haven't written to MHA. We didn't particularly have a good experience last time. In any case, the entire security machinery falls under the Election Commission during the elections," the official said.

Pietersen on Punjab's radar http://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/61650/pietersen-on-kings-xi-punjabs-radar Punjab's head of cricket operations said Kevin Pietersen's surprise axing from the national side has changed the dynamics of the upcoming IPL players' auction as his availability for the full season now makes the swashbuckling English batsman the most sought after player. Pietersen's international career came to an abrupt end after he was left out of the country's upcoming tour of the West Indies and the subsequent World Twenty20 Championships in Bangladesh. "Kevin Pietersen is such an awesome player that every franchise would like to have him in the team. A lot of teams would be looking for him and we are one of them," KXIP's head of cricket operations Anant Sarkaria told PTI. "The availability of English players for the whole duration of the IPL has always been a problem for most of the franchises. They have international commitments to fulfill. Pietersen's retirement changes the dynamics of the auction. Now he will be available for the full season. We are looking for a well-balanced team this season of the IPL," Sarkaria added. Pietersen's sensational axing is likely to attract eye balls from IPL franchises because of his popularity and his status as one of the world's most exciting Twenty20 batsmen. Pietersen is among 10 England players who have put their names down for IPL auction, seeking a new franchise. He was not retained by Delhi for the seventh edition of the league after DD opted not to retain any of their players from last season. The middle-order batsman, who has featured in 104 Tests and 136 ODIs for England, has been listed at the highest base price of Rs 2 crore. Another player on the wish-list of the Punjab franchise is out-of-favour Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh, who is presently not part of any franchise after Pune were dissolved by the BCCI. "Yuvraj is a Punjabi boy. We would love to have him back in the KXIP. There's always some kind of interest in Yuvi. Having said that, we are looking at lot of other players at the auction. We are looking at good mix of foreign and Indian stars to build a strong team for the coming edition. It's precisely the reason behind retaining only two players (David Miller and Manan Vohra)," Sarkaria said. Asked about coach Darren Lehmann, who would not be with the franchise this time around after Cricket Australia (CA) denied him the permission to take up the IPL assignment, Sarkaria said, "We knew he was trying a job with Cricket Australia. We were fully aware of it. We reached a mutual understanding and there was nothing like he was not allowed by the CA to take up the IPL job. Both of us reached a mutual understanding." Sarkaria said India bowling coach Joe Dawes, who is also the bowling coach of the Punjab side, will be in charge of the team along with Sanjay Bangar, who is the assistant coach. Asked about their strategy for players' auction, Sarkaria said, "We would be aiming to have a balanced side."

The young quickie from Jharkhand was among the wickets in each of the three matches that he played and also clocked 150kmph during the recent series. Aaron moved to quash initial speculation that he was considering giving the IPL a miss to look after his fitness, saying he is raring to feature in India's prized T20 event having missed out last season due to injury. "I'm really looking forward to playing this season's IPL, especially after having to watch in agony from the sidelines last year," said the 24-year-old Aaron Wednesday. "The only reason my name was not in the initial IPL auction list was simply down to some paper work. That's all cleared up now." Aaron also said he was more than pleased with the manner in which his body has coped with the workload since his return from a niggling back injury. "I think the Ranji Trophy season and now the series in New Zealand have shown that my physical issues of the past are behind me," he said. Having earned a spot in the Rest of India squad which will take on newly-crowned Ranji Trophy champions Karnataka Feb 9, Aaron is focused on making the most of every outing to get his bowling where he wants it to be. "There's certainly a lot of cricket before the IPL and every opportunity that comes my way before that will prove extremely useful in further sharpening my bowling," he said.

Is swann in auction? He is free agent as not with england. Surely he would want to be here and make some serious money? Would be in high demand
Isn't there though he did say that if he gets a good offer he will play in the IPL while Micheal Vaughn is against him playing in the IPL as he feels that if he can play in IPL then he could have played the 2015 WC

But why did he not put himself forward for auction? Thats how you get the good offer that he wants?

He gave an interview where he said something like his kids are very important to him and cricket is not everything plus the shoulder issues he was having while bowling so maybe next year he might be available.

"Akram has told us that his services will be available for the full length of the tournament this time," KKR Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Venky Mysore told mediapersons here. In 2010, Akram was appointed the bowling coach of KKR. But he stepped down in 2013 citing personal reasons. Ahead of the Feb 12 IPL auction in Bangalore, Mysore kept his cards close to his chest when asked whether the franchise would go for sacked England batsman Kevin Pietersen and Indian dasher Virender Sehwag. Pietersen was dropped from the England team for the forthcoming tour of the Caribbean later this month and the World Twenty20 to be held in Bangladesh in March, effectively ending his international career. "If a player is fully available for us, then it is an advantage. We do not have a particular mindset, when they come up we will react. Everybody will be a likely candidate", said Mysore. The South African-born Pietersen has played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Deccan Chargers and Delhi Daredevils in past IPL tournaments. India discard Sehwag, who recently failed to find a place in the Rest of India side for the Irani Trophy, is now a free player after his IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils decided not to retain any of the players from their last year's squad. Mysore said an extensive number of foreign players were available and this year the auction will be "very different." Moreover the 'joker's card' option has made it "trickier". "The squad size used to be 33 and now it has been brought down to 27...there will be plenty of options to consider...the supply has gone up while the demand has decreased. There are extensive number of foreign players...choice will go up," he said. According to the new rules laid down by the IPL governing council, the teams can retain up to five players and cannot have more than 27 players in the squad, of which nine may be overseas cricketers. KKR has retained Gautam Gambhir - who would lead the side - and West Indies spinner Sunil Narine. The GC has introduced a 'joker's card' system where teams can retain more players by paying the bid price. It means whichever team bids highest for a specific cricketer, the original franchise will have the first right to refuse. "Joker card thing has made it trickier...everybody will be a likely candidate. In a way retention has been made punitive...we have to balance it somehow...on one hand you have the joker card but the other part is the price," Mysore said.
