In some ways, this series proves how hard it is for a visiting team to come back in a series if they fall back at the beginning. Going into this series, no one – and I mean, NO ONE – would have predicted that Australia would win 5-0. Why would they? Australia was going thru what was arguably their worst year in test cricket for a long time. They were whitewashed and annihilated in India and didn’t win a test in the English summer. I think they went thru a stretch of 8-10 test games without winning a game, which was a record for them. Of course, even during the previous ashes, there were signs of English weaknesses, which pointed to a competitive series down under. But 5-0? That was as likely as Afridi playing a sensible innings with a bat. It just goes on to show that once the home team gets on a roll in the series and the momentum starts building, it is very hard for the visiting team to fight back. As an Indian fan, I can sympathize better with our guys for the collective 8-0 debacle in 2011. It is not like they didn’t want to do, it just felt like what they did, they could stop losing. This result also puts in perspective the sheer awesomeness of England’s win India in 2012. For the record, even GOD does not come back from being 0-1 down against India, in India. But England did. What a spectacular achievement!

Cook and co batted superbly, and the spin duo of Swann and Panesar were very good too. One would hope that the Indian team improved somewhat since that debacle.
