WI is the most surprising. Expected the number to be higher for a side that did not lose a series for nearly 15 years. For Australia how many of those whitewashes were under the all conquering teams from 1995-2007-08. Even Clarke now has 3 whitewashes - 4-0 vs India, 3-0 vs India and now 5-0 vs England! Also any idea of teams whitewashing the opposition playing away from home?

I think there is an increasing trend in whitewashes if not whitewashes atleast big series win. Teams go for results more often than not especially in home conditions.

Actually SA whitewashed us in India . But that was just 2 test series. Tendu captaincy May be only white wash at home in a 2 or more test series. Then under Ganguly India lost 0-2 in NZ in 2002. That was another whitewash.

i saw that. But these two series are worth mentioning. Even if it is only 2 test series.. whitewash in India against India is unimaginable in any era. It did happen. Terrible series. But whitewash in NZ i don't really bother about. Drop in pitches which got easier and easier as match went on. Whoever batted second was winning it. NZ did twice. won twice.

I dont get it we had bishan singh bedi, prasanna, chandrashekar three best spinner still only 3 white washes and one was by dhoni. What was it ? Was our batting weak at that time ?

Even from the 70s onwards, Sunny was the only reliable world class bat. Amarnath was erratic, though he played well away from home. Vishy - ditto, except that he played much better at home. Vengsarkar had an uneven career, but was slightly more consistent. Apart from these guys, there were no other class batsmen between the 70s and 80s. In the mid 80s to mid 90s, a few good batsmen emerged - Azhar, Sachin, Sidhu, etc.

Amazing run. scored like 1667 runs in 16 matches and won wisden cricketer of the year award.
