People used to think same about Unmukt Chand, Harmeet two years ago. Where they are ? Only Baba Aprajith did well in Ranji. We lack good approach than thinking about bench strentgh. What about trying Kedhar Jadhav in ODIs ? Avg of 50+ and SR of 105 in list A. I don't say he will set new records or something magical but he can't be worse than current middle order. Why Pujara is not playing ? He must be a sure selection. I bet give him to Aus/SA, they will play him in first XI without giving second thought. Ashwin is out form then why don't try Nadeem or Rassol ? Where is Rahul Sharma ? Actually Dhoni is so arrogant that he will continue to play his men till his retirement so that atlast they may get successful in once to prove his point.

harmeet has not been given enough chance in domestic he is still good spinner he has less chance of making it since we already have ojha and jaddu fighting for that spot don`t think we can have another left arm spinner chand is not good baba aparajith is another xerox of ashwin

I have seen vijay zol batting in last u19 wc he has a solid technique and he avgs 52 from 10 first class matches after seeing his performance this u19 wc he needs to fast tracked to the indian team like we did with kohli kohli too has played less first class match before he was fast tracked into the Indian team we need to identify young player and groom them

Vengsarkar thinks if Mumbai does not many great talent in U22 or U19, it means whole country does not have. He said the same thing a few years back when likes of Kohli, Pujara, and Rahane emerged were playing domestic. Most domestic players wont straightaway do miracles in their international career overseas. Some do, some needs time to make those adjustments coming from low and slow Indian pitches to bouncy tracks against genuine pace. Even SRT said the same in an interview that when he debuted he felt he does not belong here because he had never faced the kind of pace Akram and Waqar were generating before that but he was a genius and he too very less time to adjust to that.

Just one month ago, after the SA tests, all these experts said India have had a smooth transition, the youngsters have taken their positions well and that we have the best young batsmen in the world. 5 ODIs is all it has taken to go back to the same old things - no bench strength, cant play bounce, cant play away from home. Either don't go overboard in praise or be a bit more patient with the younger players. Transition was always going to be a tough period. Once you have identified a core group of players, back them and they will eventually come out of it as better players.

Some of current bunch should be given longer rope. Players need to adjust and adapt to different conditions and its not easy when you play most of your cricket in familiar conditions. If you keep replacing, we will never get a settled squad who have some experience. World Cup is just a year away. Players can work on their weakness and get better. Its not as if one fails, they are doomed forever and will never improve. Coming to alternatives we have Manoj Tiwary, Pujara, seamer all rounder options like Rishi Dhawan or Abishek Nayar, spin options like Parvez Rasool, pace bowling options like Pankaj Singh, Dhawal Kulkarni. Apart from them we have Ishwar Pandey, Varun Aaron who are good options. We don't lack bench strength but you need to pick the right options and give them enough opportunities. More importantly, the captain needs to be pro active and flexible and looks to pick wickets and guides the youngsters, particularly seamers and back them and make good use of them.

Agree. This is not a bad squad. They just need to adjust and work on their weaknesses for these conditions. There are not better bowlers or batsmen sitting outside than them. Though there are still a few places which need to be sorted out like Pujara in middle order at 4, trying out a seam alrounder like Rishi Dhawan. Pathan is there once he gets fit who can be handy in Australia at least better than Ashwin with the ball and someone who can replace Raina at 5 like Kedar Jadhav or someone else or Yuvraj if he comes back to form. Both Yuvraj and Raina cannot play in top 4. Yuvraj's ideal no, is 5 or 6. I would want DHoni at 5 and Yuvraj at 6. Also see if Gambhir can have a last leg in him. If he comes good, he can be at 4 and Pujara opening. Regarding seamers, do not see any better seamers sitting out. Just take Ishant out and let him work on his bowling and pick some one else in place of him and let these guys play, rotate and improve in this 1 year period. Too much chopping and changing wont yield anything.
