kubrickian Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Its just very boring to watch cricket on slow, sluggish tracks in India and spinners rolling their arms over and picking 5fers. Why do we have to settle for this brand of cricket ? I have never found test cricket on flat pitches, slow pitches or rank turners interesting to watch. Isn't a battle between fast bowlers in helpful conditions against batsmen with good technique lot more interesting to watch ? By preparing these type of pitches, we will do much better in overseas conditions as well. I know our tradition is spin bowling but I think its time to move forward from this and play a different style of cricket which will enable us to do well in England, SA, Australia etc. Otherwise, we will always struggle overseas and never become consistent.
Cricket_Hacker Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Rank turners are as interesting to watch as fast pitches(for me). Why do fast pitches have to be the standard?
kubrickian Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 Rank turners are as interesting to watch as fast pitches(for me). Why do fast pitches have to be the standard? Pakistan vs Sri Lanka on a rank turner or Australia vs South Africa on a seaming track. Which would you watch ? I would choose the latter. In any case, I'm not saying don't prepare pitches which assist spin at all. But we should not prepare tracks where fast bowlers are not in the game. In the series against Australia, the pitches were slow, dusty and turning square from ball one and effectively negated fast bowlers. Why are we preparing pitches which are completely against one set of bowlers ? How is this going to help in the development of seamers ? That reminded me a lot of 90s where we prepared these dust bowls and beat every team at home and got whitewashed in every series abroad.
BeautifulGame Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Watching five days for a result is in itself boring whether its slow track or fast track

BeautifulGame Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Test cricket is best :withstupid: Yeah that's why people are thronging to the stadium to buy tickets for tests
kubrickian Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 Watching five days for a result is in itself boring whether its slow track or fast track No, this is for people who are interested in test cricket. I know that not everyone watches test matches.
BeautifulGame Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 No' date=' this is for people who are interested in test cricket. Conditions doest matter for tests excitement its primarily based on the quality atmosphere in the ground generated by fans.
TNAmarkFrmIndia Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Any pitch that produces results is good, be it rank turners or fast pitches. A good number of Indian wickets have been producing results lately, so can't complain. A battle between fast bowlers and great batsmen is only interesting when the fast bowlers are good. Indian fast bowlers aren't good. Watching India bowl in South African or New Zealand pitches isn't interesting.

Because we don't have good fast bowlers, you need to do everything to encourage them. Preparing rank turners and relegating them to bowling a few overs with new ball and making them field near the boundary for the rest of the innings is not the way to go.
express bowling Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Pitches should promote a fight between bat and ball. I don't like pitches which results in a fight between the batsmen of both sides. Many Indian pitched do just that. The best pitches are those which allow batsmen , pacers and spinners to perform if they are good.

Some grass to keep it together and assist lateral movement. Good batsmen will also enjoy playing shots as ball will come on to the bat because of true bounce. As game goes on, spinners should come in to play on 4th, 5th days. Dust bowls and underprepared wickets should be banned from cricket.
adi B Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Watching five days for a result is in itself boring whether its slow track or fast track what? that is the beauty of test matches..from childhood i loved to watch test matches, even now i'll watch a test match with more interest as compared to say the tamasha league or some unimportant odi bilaterals.. i dont mind india playing on turners with prodigious bounce back in home, its the slow low wkts like the nagpur one in 2012 which i dont like..delhi,mumbai,mohali,mohali are good cricket pitches which offers both seamers and spinners some help.. now b4 the overseas tour india should practice more in the northern part of the country, preferably dharamsala, lahili, mohali where the pitches have comparatively more grass.bcci should arrange more warm up matches b4 playing the 1st test, bowlers should participate in camps where they learn to apply the basics of where to pitch the ball which may vary according to the pitches in the country they are travelling.. dont think india/bcci will change the brand of cricket we have been playing over the years because it'll take away our only credential in test matches i.e "strong home record"

Ashwin, Ojha and Jadeja have done well for us at home. As long as we're getting results and not drab draws, it's not an issue.

Ideally, a test pitch should aid pacers in the beginning and spinners at the end.
gaurav92 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Dustbowls are better than slow featherbeds. I'f prefer Galle over SSC in Lanka as we see some result.
express bowling Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Having spin friendly pitches in tests is absolutely fine. But, they should be such that good spinners, who produce a lot of side spin or top spin on most surfaces, are the ones who succeed. Having pitches ,which result in spinners who cannot do anything unless the pitches are unprepared and cannot turn the ball on any sort of prepared surface, is useless.
Scarves Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 It's fine. Variety is needed in world cricket.

We can't succeed at home without slow, low , Flat Mud tracks in India .
